A Major Setback - and I'm One Grateful Woman
Fortunately, I didn't eat so they could take me right into the catherization lab and insert the stent. I dont even have sutures! They inserted a catheter up thru my groin into the heart and did everything that way. If i had more energy today I could go dancing!
I am so humbled by how fortunate I was and all the people at the hospital (Lancaster General in Lancaster PA) were so great. I am blessed beyond my wildest dreams...a 2nd chance and soon a 3rd when I can have the WLS .

I so hope that pre-ops listen to you and make sure that they do just what they are suppose to. I know that we have to jump through so many hoops but we should all be grateful for our surgeons who are so into the hoops.
Things seem to change so much when we are faced with life or death things. Perspectives seem to change for us don't they? God is a great God and I too have a habit of wanting to not "listen" when He speaks to me. I think that most of us do since we are human beings. I am so glad that God can be a persist ant one too. Just as I am sure that you are glad about the same thing.
Have a wonderful and blessed holiday~and I have no doubt that you and yours will.
Thanks for your post. Yes, I hope all preops take heed, that these tests are important indeed!
My holiday will be the best ever!

Thanks, Jean
Gratitude is all I can feel right now.
I am so grateful that I got to see the sunset on Tuesday night and will live to see many more.
I am so grateful that I got to talk to my son in San Diego before the procedure because he was so panicked he could not get to me.
I am so grateful that my husband and my oldest son were able to come to the hospital before I was wheeled into the cardiac catherization lab.
And I am profoundly grateful that I will live to hear the sweet sweet sounds of my grandchildren's laughter and clean up after their messes when they help me bake cookies.
And I am grateful for Dr. Brader for being such a thorough doctor in having me schedule that stress test. If he had not, my cardiologist tells me I could very well have had the massive heart attack during surgery.
You know...funny thing.... when I was getting ready to do the test.... my concerns were "will i get back to work on time...I have a big meeting"... and "I wonder if I can get that special sweatshirt with the cartoon characters for my grandson" ...and "i have to get the car washed, the laundry done, etc etc." .....yet...... when I read about the risks of the procedure....and realized that I could die....... I did not call work....I did not worry about getting the one last Christmas present for my grandson...... what I was concerned about was that I call my son in San Diego to talk to him and calm his nerves and to tell him how much I loved him...and how so very proud I am of him.
I don't want to ever lose this lesson. That when you think you could die.... you won't be concerned about tasks left undone.... you will want those you love with you, in whatever way they can be.
I am blessed indeed.

I am so glad you went to that appointment! I am ann ICU nurse that works in the unit that all the patients come to immediately after heart bypass surgery. I couldn't believe that someone told you your lungs were burning! Lungs don't feel burny, you just get out of breath! So many times women's heart disease is overlooked and it is the number one killer of women. NOT BREAST CANCER!
You should also thank your doctor for requiring that stress test. Too many don't and then patients have heart attacks surrounding their surgeries. I know, as I have cared for them many times.
I love your attitude of gratitude and hope you recover from this setback (?) quickly. Maybe don't think of it as a setback just a part of the process to getting well with your WLS being the second phase. Are they going to send you to cardiac rehab? I think any furhter excercise would be could to do with the rehab people around.
Best wishes and hugs,
Cheryl
I will start cardiac rehab on the 18th. I will have a consultation first, then start on the following Tuesday. I will exercise while being monitored for one hour 2 x a week then go to cardiac class for 1 hr 2 x a week for 4 weeks. Then just exercising 3 times a week for about 12 weeks.
The exercise physiologist told me it was my lungs feeling burning. Said it was lactic acid build up, so I kept pushing myself to do more and work thru it. Thank the Lord I did not push myself into a heart attack.
I wrote the exercise guy today about it and he said 'glad they caught it. You didnt say it was crushing,".. what a crock! I will see him in a couple of weeks and talk to him about how women have many different symptoms and how he should refer someone for a cardiac eval or to their doctor when he hears that.
The pain for me was a burning that started on the right side then settled in my left breast. I've had it about 3 months off and on!
I'll be even healtheir now when I have the surgery which wont be able to be performed for a minimum of 6 months. I had hoped to have it in Feb. But everything happens for a reason, and this did too.
Thanks for the post!
