Anyone with any long term experience with Lap-Band and Fibromyalgia?

Hi!

Thanks to everyone that has been so good about responding to my questions!  I appreciate it very much!

So far I do not think I have encountered anyone having had Lap-Band surgery in the over 50 group.  I am certain that there must be some here!

Because of some previous surgeries that I have had, I do not think that I will be a candidate for WLS other than those surgeries having to do with altering the stomach only.

I am interested in knowing about large weight losses using this category of WLS.  Are there any other options besides Lap-band that fall into this category?

I am also interested in any information about any experiences with Lap-band and Fibromyalgia management.  I do not want to make myself worse with the Fibro.  I am already very challenged with it way too often!

Thanks again for all of your support already!  I appreciate you all very much!

There is the VSG (vertical sleeve gastrectomy), which removes much of the stomach leaving a long thin sleeve instead of the larger, rounder, bigger stomach.

Hummm...That actually sounds like a better option than Lap-Band on several counts.  Although I do not think any of the doctors in my area even do this particular version of WLS yet.

Barbara,
I can't help you about the fibromyalgia, but I have had lapband and feel that I have done quite well so far.  I'll be glad to help anyway that I can with questions.

Barbara,

I cannot help you with the Lap-Band questions, as I have had an RNY. I can help you with the WLS and Fibromyalgia issue. I have gotten minimal relief from my FMS since my RNY. My weight loss surgeon told me, WLS does not usually serve much of a benefit to FMS. The other co-morbidities and weight related issues it will help. Sorry, I wish I had better news for you, I can hear you loud and clear though, as I am in the middle of a flare up as we speak. I seems like it is taking forever to come out of it. However, I am not sorry for having my RNY, I would do it again and again.

Best of luck to you, Phyllis
