What's New, FRIDAY!??
Aloha Off family,
Oh, Nancy...what a glorious gift and token of your love/friendship! I wish I could see a picture of those beautiful lamps.
I just made myself a banana/strawberry protein shake and am catching up on OFF news as it begins to turn light outside. It is the third or 4th day of overcast, chilly (to us!) weather. Of course we have no furnaces in our homes, so when it's chilly, we put on long pants, long sleeve shirts, etc. I know it sounds ridiculous to be cold when it's 72 degrees in my home, but it is and I am. It's all in what you get used to. I don't think I could survive in the weather some of you describe that's in the teens. My body has become a tropical fruit! It would turn to mush in the cold....Ha!
Today I'm finally getting my buh-tocks out of here and doing some errands. I finished my taxes yesterday....yeah....so have to mail them to my tax guy in Calif. I probably should find someone here on Maui to do my taxes, but my Calif. CPA knows my history so I keep sending them to him. He's a friend as well as my accountant. What once looked like a financially secure future now looks pretty pitiful.....and I'm going to have to do some creative thinking to keep afloat in this crazy world. I guess it's too late to sell my body! Ha! I missed that lucrative vocation!!! Oh, well....guess I'll have to hang onto my baby screening job, and add more hours somehow.
I'm babbling here....just wanting to hang around with you all for awhile before I get busy doing what I need to do. I hope you all have a great day, and that something surprisingly happy happens to you.
Aloha nui loa,
Maui Karen

Hi Nancy and my OFF family:
Well, still no Internet access at home. In fact, my printer is acting up. I need to fax something to my insurer and I couldn't scan the letter. I could copy it, not scan it. It wasn't allowing me to do much of anything. I got the new modem this afternoon (late) before I went to work, so I will try to install that tomorrow. I'm going to run ScanDisk before I do that to see if I can fix whatever is wrong. I tried to remove a couple of programs I thought were gumming up the works (some toolbars that HP put on my browser) but it would not allow me to remove them. Grrr! I finally get a printer and now nothing works on the computer! If I can't get this to work by this weekend, my coworker says he has a 10-year-old Mac that works reasonably well that he'd give me. I may take him up on it. I'm really quite fed up with this.
Appointment with ortho doc went well ... didn't see him, just the PA, so I was out of there quickly. I was surprised, it only took a half hour. I was complaining about how long it took at that office when they called me in. And here I had coffee, water and two magazines! I didn't even have time to finish my coffee! Anyway, PA told me ortho doc did indeed remove the posterior cruciate ligament and that's why I now have a longer implant ... plus, I have less usable bone than the last time because it's a revision (and that's what they usually do). PA was pleased at my range of motion and figures I'll need about 2-3 weeks more of PT. I go back to the doctor in two months (April 7). So far, so good.
Came home and stood for an hour to make a cake for my coworker Kim's birthday ... I really need a new mixer! This was a $19.95 special a few years ago and it has seen better days. It took forever to cream the butter and sugar ... I kept smelling the motor burning on it. That's why it took so long. I had to stop and let the butter and sugar mixture swirl off the beaters so I could keep mixing. It took for ever. It was a chocolate zucchini cake, and it's one of my favorite cakes, but it really needs to be made with a better mixer. I need to find one before I make cakes or cookies again. I don't think this mixer can do it again.
Actually, my knee doesn't hurt too much considering all that standing. I am going to look for a stool this weekend or early next week to use in the kitchen for cooking. I'm going to make chili tomorrow. Although now it's going up to 45 ... not really chili weather, but I still have a taste for it.
Well, I guess I should get to work. Have a good day.
