Thinking abou****er and medications. . .

Just wondering and would like input. I know staying hydrated is very important for everyone especially us. I also know how important supplements and required medications are. Some of my required meds say things like "take on an empty stomach", "take with food", etc. My question: since water tends to flush things through our systems before things can be absorbed thoroughly would it make sense to take our meds and supplements with as little water as possible? I'm talking just enough to further break down the tablet or pill. My vitamins are capsules from Bariatrics Advantage. Just even a wet finger causes them to start dissolving. Does any absorption take place before it reaches the pouch? Does absorption just take place in the digestive system? I take my calcium separate from my vitamins. So far in 4 years my labs have been consistently good and I want to keep them that way. I may have read about some of this and just forgotten. My "forgetter" works better than my "rememberer" these days! So how do all y'all take your supplements and medications? An inquiring mind wants to know. . .

i say if its working for you the way you are taking them now, continue as you are doing.
it seems everyone has kinda their own take on the vitamin thing.

be safe and well, jacki

by the way, im a haphazard kinda vitamin taker, i take them when i remember but usually manage to get them all in every day.  so far ive been ok  at 2.5 years out, so ill continue what im doing unless anything changes.

Good question, Karen!    I've wondered too about drinking with my meds.   I take synthroid and it says to drink a full glass of water with it.   I can only get down 4 oz. at a time, but within 5 minutes have the whole 8 oz down.....wonder if that tiny pill does anything being washed thru with all tha****er?  My TSH blood work came back fine, so guess it's working.   I get my vitamins in everyday along with the calcium.....   I'm still on five medications but PCP wants to try and get me off the 10 mg. water pill soon.....scares me but we'll try it and see what happens...I was on 20 mg. so at least I am not taking as much.....along with that I have to take potassium, so if I eliminate the water pill I will most likely to able to discontinue the potassium too.

very good question!
i tend to take mine with just enough to get them down...i have enough to do to juggle the with food and without food things-and i cannot live with the bottles lined up on the counter!

in a different light-i was told that if i drink too much throught the day (which i tend to try to keep something going at my desk at work decaf tea or whatever) i am probly flushing out the iron i am working so hard to take in.... however that was told me by a non wls person....

this reminds me that i have been up 3 hours and haven't taken my vits...

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

IMHO..I have figured that if the pouch or the stomach were the only place that calories/fats/vitamins/minerals were absorbed....we would all be very skinny.  The body absorbs in the intestines, too.  The blood carries stuff to the liver, kidneys...brain...or wherever it is needed.  Sometimes it is stored...as in fat or non-water soluable vitamins and sometimes it passes out what is not needed or used.  Sometimes, you are supposed to drink water so that the pill WON'T sit in the pouch and will get into the blood faster. ...also, it won't sit in the pouch and cause irritation/ulcers.  If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
