Has anyone here had a revision *over 60*??

Hello everyone,

I'm 62 and will likely be 63 by the time I get my surgery date with Dr. Pop.  I need a revision from vbg 15 yrs ago, to RNY.  Also, my BMI is now at 60 and I have MANY co-morbs.  I would love to talk to others who've experienced a revision in my age group.  I'm thinking the challenges may be greater?  I want to be well informed and prepared.

I'll be posting this on the 'over 50' board, but thought I would try it here as well.  Hope to hear from someone.

Susanna,

Welcome to the OFF board. I didn't have a revision but did have RNY at age 59 with a BMI of 58. 2 1/2 years later, I am 207 pounds lighter and sooo much happier.

Surgeries are improving each year so this will be different in many ways for you. It seems that the over 50 group does very well after WLS. Perhaps because we value the new & improved life changes and follow the plans more closely.

Best of luck to you.

Hi Annette,

Thanks for writing.  I just had a look at your profile and must say am impressed.  You look great!  Your words are very encouraging.  I'd love to keep in touch from time to time if I have specific questions.  I sure hope to follow your example to my own goal weight.

Great accomplishment to you!

Hi Susanna!
I  had a revision this past September from lapband to RNY.  It was 2 weeks before my 60th birthday. Instead of feeling my age, I feel younger each and every day! I don't think that my age was any problem.  I hope that you will have the same good luck!

Hi Marciam,

Thanks for writing.  Did it take you longer than most (younger folks) to recover or not so?  I sure do feel my age right now.... or rather.... I feel 20 years older!   But I know what you say is true.... once the weight comes off, energy come back and we feel more alive again!   I simply can't wait!  I'd love to keep in touch with you as well if that's o.k., as I go through my recovery.  Bye for now,

Susanna

Hello again Marciam,

After sending my email to you I realized I hadn't looked at your profile.  As with Annette, I'm very impressed with your accomplishment.  Saw your beautiful pictures.... you look radiant!  Congrats on all of this.  I hope to follow through soon.  That fashion looks like it was a blast!

By the way, where do you live?

Keep in touch,

Susanna

Thanks so much!  I live in Long Island, NY,
I don't really think that our recovery is any worse than that for the young people.  At our age and experience we know what to expect & I think that makes a big difference.
Good luck to you!

I am 63 and had RNY last Nov.  No problems I could'nt handle.  Felt lousy for 2 wks post.  Developed a VERY HEALTHY respect for my pouch limits. Am following the Doc 's program, proteins, fluids, exercise etc. Seems to be working.
Make sure you drink mega oz of clear fluids after surgery.  Constipation is a common problem, and I dont mean a 1 grunt type.  This is like giving birth so says the Doc. - Think baseballs.  Remember, your Doc will double check your test results etc at this age. The POUCH RULES and dont worry about lb loss. It will all come off
Jump on board and enjoy the ride
Good luck
