What's New Friday? TGIF!

Hi my OFF family:

I'm so glad I get to start the thread this morning ... it's 12:10 a.m. and the start of the end of my work week, this week at least. And then I'm on vacation for a week. Not going anywhere ... well, I'm going to Chicago to see my family for two days and then to see my OFF sistahs Brenda and Paulette on Monday. Not a big trip. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone, but not to the drive.

I just feel so rundown from this cold. All food tastes like mucus ... know what I mean? I'm so sick of the postnasal drip. I've only had the cold since Monday and I'm already sick of it. Now I'm getting a sinus headache. Hope it doesn't continue. Tonight I have to work in sports when I get done with my news duties. I don't think it'll be really busy because it's spring break week and there's no school sports.

It was a busy day ... got the oil changed, went to get my plates renewed before they expired on Saturday, went to Hallmark to get a bunch of birthday cards and wrapping paper (and got 20 percent off on everything because of my birthday promotion) and then did grocery shopping ... all before 12:30 p.m. Before work, I stopped at this candy store to get my mom's sugar-free candy for Easter ... got her a half pound plus a SF Easter bunny and some foil wrapped Easter eggs. They wrapped it up real nice. Mom really likes this candy and you can't get it anywhere else, so I like to get it for her when I can.

Tonight, a coworker is making me a birthday cake ... usually I make myself a cake and bring it in to share because I can only have a small piece. But Kate offered to make it (and she makes the best from-scratch German chocolate cake, my favorite). So it's worthwhile to go to work tonight.

So what's up for you today? And this weekend? I have presents to wrap and my bag to pack and I have to pack the AeroBed in the car (and then I have to drag all that up the stairs at my mom's house, too).

Well, have a good day. I'm going to bed, hopefully to sleep eventually. I'll check in later. Chat nicely. Everyone's welcome!

do you feel kindof like you are the hamster on the wheel??i do lately...and i want off...(no i don't mean this board!!!)

testiness between michael and me and i just would like a place to hide for a day or so...to not have to do anything or answer to anyone but do something for me....

I hope you don't take this the wrong way Margo.  One of the things I do not like about this board (or any discussion board) is I feel guilty for having a great marraige.

Seriously, Mary and I have had two arguements in our 35 years.  I can't remember what either of them were over.  But for one, I know she was sitting in the living room drinking a wine cooler out of one of her fancy wine glasses (that we hardly ever used because neither of us really drank).  Any way, she got ticked off and threw the glass at the fireplace (trying to get my attention, I guess).  The glas**** the bricks and fell on the carpet.  DID NOT BREAK.  That really ticked her off, and to make matters worse, I could not stop laughing.  But that led to her laughing and it was over.

Back to where I was going, I can't empathize with anyone having marital problems, because I have not been there.  Even when we disagreed about how my son should be handled (bailed him out of jail several times before he turned 18), but we always resolved it together with reasoning.

But I can pray for you.  And of course, I will.  Hope things work out okay.

aw george- one of the things i love about you on this board is that you always know you can speak frankly with me--

now- what i should have said is this--michael gets very very testy --actually hateful-when he comes down off morphine--and he was on enough of it at the hospital that he is unbearable still--and there is no reasoning with him...

and--since his accident in 3/06--i am NEVER home alone for even 5 minutes unless he is in the hospital---i get NO time to myself---and sometimes i just wanna clean something or cook or sit and stare out a window--BY MYSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  i am used to my hubby (first one was 26 years) going to work and having friends and a life and activities outside of me....it is not michael's fault he doesn't work-however-on the friend issue- well- he has none cuz of his grouchies...and he doesn't encourage much friendship-- he does NOTHING away from home-i am hoping he will go do some things tomorrow so i can sew...

did that clear it up a bit??????

Margo:

I can kinda understand where you are coming from, even though I've never been married. I saw this with my parents. My dad was perfectly happy doing his own thing without my mom on some nights, and letting her do her thing with her friends. Dad was more of a homebody; mom had her friends from the neighborhood, so she went and socialized every now and then without him, and he was fine about that. I always thought that was the definition of a strong marriage, that you could play separately, but come together when you wanted to, not always be together. Everyone needs time for themselves. I'm used to being by myself. At this point in my life, I don't think I'd do well being married.

Margo, I know what you're talking about with "you" time. When Gary worked at Buck's he had lots of evening shifts, so I was alone a lot. I enjoy time together, but having time all by myself is a wonderful thing.

Glad everyone is healthy!  Good luck with the family dinner and the skirt. Sounds like your plate is running over.

hugs and smoochies

Susan

Margo, I totally understand what you are saying about the me time. Everyone needs time to for their own thoughts and ideas. Just to be able to sit and ponder their life and what they want to do and/or change. That is normal.......so don't feel guilty about it either.

I have the time from Bill when he is working Monday through Friday in the evenings. It is my time to do what I want and need to do. My favorite thing is going to the library for my time with what I love......books.

It doesn't  matter how happy or unhappy your marriage is everyone needs time for themselves otherwise you begin to lose yourself and that isn't good.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Another busy weekend for me.

Getting up early today to watch the Rangers (they play at noon).  Mary is going to a play with Penny and the girls (it is for kids, but professional).  When she comes home her and I are going to Red Lobster for dinner.  Then on to Eddie's ball game.  After that, we hope to go to the gym.

Saturday. I will be working at the pt job.  Then I will go home to get Mary.  We are going to the horse races.  After that, there is a Beach Boys concert at the race track.  Then to the gym and home.

Sunday.  Early Easter service (8:30) and then Sunday School.  After that, on to Penny's house to spend the day with them.  Leave by 6 or so to go home for a quick nap before going to work.

One of these days I will have a weekend with nothing to do.  Right, sure I will.
