Ola! How are we doing?? Whose hungry today??Who only eats when they are really hungry?? Who eats because it is time?
B- Eggs with Cheese L-Smart Choice beef meal D- Chicken and Sausage Gumbo Soup by Progresso, not too spicey.
I am happy my appetite is back and Fangster is behaving. I am also happy for Milk of Magnesia, recommended by my WLS NUT for grumpy pouches, and that such a little bit helps, and that Brenda reinforced what I was thinking about yesterday,an attitude of gratitude. Olivia just brought me a sandwich. I will not eat it all,but a little.
I am reminded once again that people love us the way they can,not the way we want them to.Two bites of the sandwich is plenty,,the action, priceless.
Keep smiling!

Good morning Lovely Linda and OFF friends,

So glad your appetite is back.  I hope you are feeling much better!  Wanted to wish you and everyone else a great day.  Hopefully, we'll get some sunshine today for longer than an hour.  I'm planning to walk on the treadmill since it has been two weeks since I last worked out, and I need the exercise.  Not too much else new going on.

Have a great Thursday everyone!

Linda,

I try very hard to eat only when I'm physically hungry, not just because the clock says it's mealtime.

The other day I was re-reading some books by Geneen Roth about compulsive overeating.  She told a story about a woman who said she never ate between meals.  But her meals went something like this: Eat breakfast at home, then pick up a McDonald's breakfast to eat at work.  Eat a Burger King lunch in the car, then eat the lunch she brought from home at her desk.  Eat dinner with her kids, then eat dinner again with her husband!

B: Weigh****cher's Amaretto Cheesecake FF yogurt - this stuff is wonderful - it's almost too good - like having dessert for breakfast
S: iced skinny latte
L: shrimp & veggy salad
S: cheese stick
D: chicken livers, mushroom barley risotto
S: SF pudding

Jean,
How do you cook the chicken livers?  I used to coat with flour and fry but, cannot eat that way anymore.  Also, what is mushroom barley risotto?  I am learning something every day : )

Joy,

The only way I have ever cooked chicken livers is to salte them in olive oil with onion, garlic salt, onion powder and pepper.  They are so good.  I love chicken livers.  Now you have me wanting some - lol

I know what you mean RoseyNo.  I used to eat it in bunches even if it gave me heartburn!  Good stuff.  I just wanted to know if there was a way to fix it without frying in oil or shortening.

Joy,

This is how I cooked the chicken livers yesterday.  Melt 1 tbl butter in a large nonstick skillet.  Saute 3 chopped scallions and 8 oz chicken livers for a few minutes, until livers are browned on both sides but still raw inside.  Add 1 cup roughly-chopped mushrooms, 1/4 tsp thyme, salt and pepper to taste, and 1/4 c. chicken broth and continue cooking to desired degree of doneness (I can't eat overcooked liver).  Turn heat to low and add 1/2 c. sour cream.  Cook and stir until the sauce is heated through, but do not boil or the sour cream will separate.  I like this recipe because generally I need some kind of sauce in order to get meat of any type through my stoma.  My husband eats the livers with lots of the sauce on top of toast, noodles, rice, or whatever, while I just eat the livers with a little bit of sauce.

Here's a link to the mushroom barley risotto recipe.

I've kind of re-discovered barley since my WLS.  I can't eat rice any more - it's too sticky and gets stuck in my stoma - but I can eat barley and now prefer its flavor and texture to rice.  Plus as starchy carbs go, it's better for you than white rice because it's somewhat less processed.  Sometimes I just cook it by itself according to the package directions, using chicken broth instead of water, but the risotto version is really, really good.

Jean,
That sounds delicious!  I am going to try it. I have never tried the barley risotto but, I sure am going to now.  I understand about the rice.  It actually irritates my tummy.  Thanks for giving your recipe to me.  Oh, is Union City far from Sale Creek, TN?  My parents retired from WV and settled on Chicamauaga Lake in Sale Creek.  Beautiful area!

Joy,

I don't know where Sale Creek, TN is, but if it's beautiful, it's probably in east Tennessee.  Union City is in northwest TN, which is mostly flat (kind of boring) farmland.
