discouraged pre op diet
Hi, I completed my first month of my 6 month preop diet. I have not lost one pound. I have stopped all caffene, no rice, pasta, potatoes, soft drinks and sweets. I am excersising 1 hr everyday (Wii fit and walking). Nothing is coming off and my fasting blood sugars are rising (134 this morning). Any suggestions? I have to loose 20 lbs before the Dr will do the surgery.

Val,
Are you working on a food plan with a dietitian? That might be the key to success.
My surgeon wouldn't touch me until mega pounds came off. The dietitian put me on a food plan of 3 meals and 2 snacks a day - all well planned by her. My first reactions was that it was too much food. It wasn't too much food; it was all the correct choices and portions.
The fasting blood sugars are out of my realm of knowledge. Get in touch with your PCP to address that issue.
Good luck
Annette

Hi Val,
I agree with Annette, and some of the others. I am pre-diabetic and was losing nada zip when I started my pre-op diet. I called in frustration to the surgeon's office, they recommended 6 small meals a day rather than 3 with concentrated proteins being the bulk of my intake. I followed their advice and have happily lost 33 pounds the last 6 weeks. I eat 900-1000 calories a day, and track everything I put in my mouth on the daily plate ( www.livestrong.com ). Keeping a diary is very helpful as you can spot the stuff sometimes that's making a difference and see what does the most good. It's also good to take it to the nut if you consult with him/her. Someone said see the nut. I think you should, see the nut. In the meantime we remain here for you. This will happen. You got a slight glitch to overcome, and you will. Just got to find the right thing to unlock that weight loss.
