My Galapagos trip

I have been home for a few days but not able to post.  You know how people get tourista or Montezuma's revenge when they go out of the country?  Well I got sick when I came back to the U S.
Not fun.  Also had some previously scheduled doctors appts. trying to resolve some health issues that are still a mystery.

Enough icky stuff and on to better thoughts

Often when you look forward to something for ever you are disappointed when you finally experience it.

NOT THE CASE WITH MY TRIP ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

It was fantastic, fabulous, and any other adjective you can think of.  In addition to all the animals I have waited so long to see, we got up close and personal with the volcano that was erupting.  Talk about awesome.  We voted as a group to change our itenerary so we could get to the volcano.  We went out 8 at time in the panga ( a large zodiac type boat)  We got about 100 yards from the action.  We could see the lava hit the water.  Too cool for words.  As soon as I am able I will get the pictures developed and hopefully figure how to post some of them.

I was so pleased that I was able to do everything on the schedule.  Every morning we were up between 6:00 and 6:30.  We had about 15 minutes to get to breakfast, 30 minutes to eat and then 15 minutes to get our stuff together and board the pangas.  We then took a two or three hour hike to see the animals on whatever island we were visiting.  Then back to the ship for a snack and a few minutes to change ( we were on the equator and were wringing wet by then) then on to our next expedition.  After that activity back to the ship for lunch and a power siesta.  I took full advantage of that nap!  After our siesta back on the panga for our next expedition then back for another snack.  Then i****he showers and get to the main salon by 7:00 p m for the breifing by the naturalists for the next day agenda.  Then dinner a few minutes to chat with fellow passengers and then to bed.  I would say we  went to sleep but maybe we just cratered.  The water was rough at times.  We were in the Pacific Ocean in a ship that was only 100 feet long.  I loved it but a lot of folks got seasick in spite of patches and pressure point bracelets etc.  These are a few thing we did.

Saw giant tortoises, blue footed boobies, red footed boobies, Nesca boobies, marine and land iguanas, mulitple finches, lava lizzards, mockingbirds, and Sally lightfoot crabs to name a few.

We snorkeled with sea lions, penquins, sea turtles, golden rays and spotted eagle rays.

We saw too many fishes to name including parrot fish, damsel fish, sargent majors, star fish, chocolate chip star fish, sea urchin, and octopi.

We saw hammerhead and white tip sharks.

And of course the volcano.

I am so psyched.

I bought a pair of trekking poles and 3 shirts that are UV 40 rated.  Without the poles I don't know if I would have made it.  The shirts made me a little cooler.

OBSERVATION:  While I was there I didn't sneez once.  My sinuses were clear.  My arthritis was almost non-existant.  Before I got home from the airport back in the USA I was sneezing my head off.  I am back to pain in my hands and elbow.  My knees are pretty good but  I did get cortizone shots in both of my knees before I left.  I can't help but think it is people made pollutants that contribute much to our health issues.  Most of the Islands I went to are totally uninhabited.  No people no pollution.  Also most of the food we ate came from the farmer no middle men so it was fresh and the nutrients were probably still in them.  There are no pests in the Islands except for a couple of flies and one grasshopper.  They do not spray.  Makes one think.

I will never take a trip like this again.  I am so glad it was everything I imagined and more.

Well.....Maybe I'll have to revamp my bucket list.  African Safari anyone??????

When are you going to Panama and what are your plans while you are there?  I have a friend who took care of her elderly father until he passed away a few years ago and now she and her DH are travelling fools.  One of the places she has gone is Panama and then a trip down the amazon river.  Hope you have a great trip.

Linda, your trip sounds like one of a life time. I think it would have been so exciting seeing the different fish and of course the volcano. I am so glad that you had such a wonderful time. I would be exhausted after all the coming and going that you did. That was some busy and full days that is for sure.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Linda, glad you're back safe and sound.  Well, at least you weren't sick on your trip.  I had to laugh at blue footed boobies, red footed boobies, and Nesca boobies!  You can keep the lizzards and iguanas, but the rest I'd love to see!

Aloha Linda....What a fabulous experience. Yours was the first post I opened because I had just heard about the volcano and thought of you, and there you were!

The miracle that is YOU! Imagine yourself doing this adventure when you were heavy. I get "chicken skin" just thinking about all that you saw, and felt and did. Thank you so much for your descriptions...I almost felt like I were there seeing all of Mother Nature's wonders with you.\

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Sounds like a great trip. It's one I'd like to take sometime when I get some money (yeah, right, whenever that is). Can't wait to see the photos.
