Medical ID bracelet questions.....

Hi Karen,

I took your advice and I am have come on over the the 50+ forum.

My bracelet came from Medic Alert and it is sterling silver. With medic alert they keep your information on file and have a number that the hospital can call for all the updated information.
My bracelet also includes information on my latex and bee sting allergies, diabetes and high blood pressure. The last two I do not have anymore since surgery but both can still cause problems. My sugar now drops low and my blood pressure can spike with stress. So I left them on.   There are many other things that people include but the first should be gastric bypass, no blind NG tube, then no NSAIDs, then the rest of the warnings as suggested by the other posts.

I think that I would also like a necklace.  I wear my bracelet all the time but sometimes I would like to hide it under a shirt so a necklace would work too.

Aloha Maggie and WELCOME TO THE OFF! You will love the people here......they are very supportive, interesting and FUN!

I can't believe I've gone almost 3 years without having any medical information on me if I get into trouble. Having had two friends now who have had mini strokes and were taken to the hospital unconscious, I am sort of shocked into realizing that it can happen to anyone, and I need to get on the stick and order something to keep me safe in case of emergency.

Thank you so much or your excellent info and for coming on over to the OFF. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Karen I bought one of those blank medic alert and I wear it on a necklace.  I had it engraved that I had Gastric bypass surgery.
I have been kind of lax lately and not wearing it but I have worn it since I had my surgery.

Take care
Mickey

Aloha Mickey........Where did you find your blank medical alert bracelet? Did you have it engraved with the company or somewhere else? I have a feeling that having this important information on our bodies can save some lives, or at the very least keep us from suffering unnecessary complications.

Thanks for the info!!

I bought it in the pharmacy dept at WalMart.  I think it was a bracelet ??? and I tried to fancy it up, but I don't do good with jewelry making and I just made a necklace out of it.
I figured if I had something around my neck they would pay more attenction to that. HA!  But I never put as much on mine as the others were saying.  I got mine done at one of those little jewelry places at the mall here.
Do they have WalMart over in Maui?  I can't remember. I imagine you could find them at any drug store also.

In my other life when I was a Pharmacy Tech all those years we always carried blank Medic Alert necklaces and bracelets. The deal was once you bought the style you wanted, you sent it to Medic Alert and they would engrave it for free as well as add you to their database.

I think I'm going to get one of their stainless necklaces. As a scubadiver I don't wear shiny jewelry in the water....Barracuda's and such are attracted by shiny things! A necklace I can wear under my suit plus my info will be in their database. I figure the more people who know my medical details the better!
