I can't remember who had the post about the lady with 22 cats.  I'm wondering what happened.  Did you call the authorities?  Did the lady get help?

Jani, that was Annette and she's on vacation. Maybe if she pops in she'll let us know.

It was me and yes, I called the authorities. Animal Control has to go through a long legal process. Adult Protective Services is involved and move the process along.

It may have helped that I tracked down a couple of relatives - one had to go in and care for the cats after I refused. It was impossible for him to ignore the situation as I walked him through the house. There was no denying that the living conditions were filthy. The relatives can no longer keep this their little family secret.

My neighbor was still in Florida when we left. Because the County views this as a mental health issue (it sure is!!) the cats will not be removed until she returns home.

I actually thought it was you Annette.  Thanks for letting me know.  I've been thinking of the poor lady a lot.  It is a mental health ordeal, they think they're doing the animals a favor by giving them a home.  What they don't realize is that the home they're giving them is less than good.  I hope the family gets in there and cleans the place up now that they know about it.  It wouldn't be the thing I'd want to do, but necessary.
I hope the county can get this resolved soon for all parties involved.
I don't know why I pick up on things that are really none of my business, and then obsess about them.  I guess it's because there are animals involved and I assume the lady is elderly?
Thanks again.

Jan,

Don't apologize for caring about animals.

Jan,
She is an elderly widow with dementia. The house was once immaculate. Now it is saturated with cat urine, beyond the scope of normal cleaning. Not a healthy space for cats or humans.
