1 Samuel 17:1-18:4
John 8:21-30
Psalm 111:1-10
Proverbs 15:11

Every Sunday, Mary, Brad, Eddie and I sit in the second pew.  About 2 months ago, our pastor went to Israel so we had a substitute.  He preached on David and Goliath.  He used Eddie and I as props.  He had me stand up on the stage area, while Eddie was down on the floor.  Then he took off his suit jacket and put it on Eddie, referencing 1 Samuel 17:38.  The message stuck in the head of Eddie.

The one thing that arouses my curiousity in this reading is how tall was David?  We are given specifics on Goliath.  But we are only told David was a child.  He was smaller than Saul.   I know Saul was smaller than Goliath, but I wi**** would be easier to try to determine just how big a difference there was in the sizes of David and Goliath.

I see you are working ahead!

Interesting thing your pastor did,  I may think about it and the folks at Scottsville UMC may see it someday.

Have a great weekend!

Jeane

PS  I'm not too sure we ever "get it" before we stand on the other side.

The pastor used my grandson because he is 11.  He really wanted someone about 13, but Eddie was sitting right up front and is a big kid.  But still a kid.

I tend to be more of a New Testament preacher but I will keep this in mind if I should ever do David and Goliath.

In one of the commentaries that I read about David, it said that he was probably in his mid twenties.  According to the customs of those times, he would have been that old in order to be doing all the things his father had him doing like taking things to the war front for his brothers and watching the sheep.

During that pastor our father used the same reasoning to say he was about 13 to 15.  His brothers were at the war front, but he was not old enough to do that.
