My Body Wants to Know Why?

Yesterday, my son and dil and I went up to Devil’s Den for a two mile hike.  Devil’s Den is the huge national park that has trails and tons of caves.  We took off and the first part was easy because the descent was made easy with log steps; however, after the first half of a block, we had to climb over huge rocks and fallen trees.  The path was made easy by rocks and being worn by so many hikers, but the path was also going down and up and no stairs so I had to maneuver from rock to rock and hope I didn’t slide on my ass.  By the time we got to the caves, sweat was pouring off of me.  Fortunately, the caves are very cool and one is very cold.  While I didn’t go far into the caves, I did explore enough to disturb the bats and feel the cold air from underground.  One cave is named the ice box and it is just that, cold as an ice box.  I climbed into the opening and sat on a huge rock ledge and remembered how before wls I would never have been able to make it down the trail, let alone climb down into a cave.  My son remembered us going to the mountains and me having him get rocks for me because that was when I was in the wheel chair from the drunk driver and not able to walk.  Then we talked about how big I got after that and how big he got over the years and how wls had allowed us the freedom from all that fat to climb and walk.  It was a great moment.  Then on with our journey and we came to three huge waterfalls.  I held my hot head over and let the water cool me off .  The largest of the falls was right off the trail, so I climbed down and went behind the water and just loved looking through the rushing water.  Finally, we made it down to the lake and we all took our shoes off and waded into the water.  I found a huge rock to stretch out on and my back absorbed the heat from the rock and it felt so good.  The last part of the hike was going back up and it was straight up and I thought that I was going to have to stop and rest, but I didn’t, and after two and half hours of hiking on the trails and hiking off the trails, we made it back to the car.  Today, I don’t think there is a muscle in my body that isn’t asking me what the hell I thought I was doing.

You might be a little sore today, but, just think you were able to make that walk & climb where you could not have before the WLS.That is why we all did this is to be
healthy and be able to move again.
Congrats on the great day you had. Take care of those muscles today. You will be
just fine!!

I am mostly sore in my calves and that is from the up and down movement.  I knew that I woud be sore, but I didn't think I would be this sore.  Even though I am so sore, I am so fortunate to be able to do all that I do.  I know a lot of men and women who lose a lot of weight but are still not able to be as active as I.  Even my dil was sore and she is a young and a size zero.  I am heading back to the park Tuesday with a group of friends of mine and I'm going to do it all again with them.  This time though, I'm wearing shorts and a tank top.  I'm not about to burn up like I did yesterday.  Oh, and I'm taking a backpack with water, peanut butter and jelly sandwich and some chap stick.

Sounds like the perfect day to me... I wouldn't be able to do it once yet but twice in one week would for sure kill me.  Be sure to use sunscreen the next time.
Hope you enjoy your day.

I am happy that I get an opportunity to hike with my friends.  I am not confident enough to try it alone, so Saturday we are heading out.  We had planned on doing it today, but one of the ladies has asked for us to put it off until Saturday because she had an unexpected period.  I remember those days and was happy to put it off a couple of days.  No one wants to hike with the cramps.

Just when I make a comment on your posts you go and prove me wrong.  LOL

Good job.  I know how you feel.  My wife was in a wheelchair three years ago.  Now she gets in trouble for running in my kids' houses.  And sometimes she does much more than she should and her body lets her know.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

I am so happy your wife has been able to move out of her chair.  When I started walking, it was the happiest day of my life.  I cannot tell you how depressing it was watching the world walk by.  That is one of the reasons I will not allow them to do any more back surgery.  I'm afraid that something will happen and I'll end up not being able to walk.  As long as I can tolerate the pain and as long as the vertebrae hold me up, I'm not letting them do squat to my back. LOL  Your wife sounds like she is enjoying her independence.  Yeah for her.

OMG, I remember it was either right after my wls or right before and hubby and I went to visit Jan and we hunted arrowheads and while they were all walking around and bending over and getting up and off the ground, I flopped down and stayed until they helped me back up; now however, I never slow down. LOL  I do every thing that I wanted to do and some. LOL  It's great and I love it.  You know what I mean?
