Botox or Juvederm?
Hi,
This is my 1st time using this forum. Has anyone out there had any experience with Botox and or Juvederm? I'm starting to think about it...my surgeon just started offering it and I know my dermatologist has it as well.
I'm 58 and going to my 40th reunion in July...want to maybe get rid of some wrinkles and folds in my face.
Thanks for any input.

I have lost so much weight that I am going for the face lift. My face hangs so badle. I am not wrinkled as much as saggy. From where my cheeks had been so large previous to wls, I have these huge hanging areas and also from my eyes. In fact, my eyes are so bad that my insurance will pay for that surgery. I would do botox but the doctor said that the place they usually put the botox is not a problem for me: the forehead, the lips, and where the smile lines are. So, I'm going for the gold, a freakin' face life.

Hi! Welcome to this forum. I have not done Botox or Juvederm, but just did Restylane. I'm over 70 have had RNY and gone from a 22 to a 4-6. My face suffered from the weight loss and I had the Marionette lines down from the mouth (starting from nose). I was very self conscious - however I found if I smiled all the time all was well, but who can do that.
I went to a board certified dermatologist and after one half of my face was done, I had the nurse call my husband in to see the amazing difference. It was so dramatic! This was on Thursday and today is Sunday - I'm still a little swollen and bruised, but this will diminish soon. It will require upkeep, but at this age I don't want to take a chance on a face lift - if I were your age I might consider it.
I would recommend doing your home work. There are lots of fillers - the Restylane is what Dr recommended for me and I am thrilled. Please let me know what you decide to do. I went to my 50th HS reunion and it was a blast. You will Wow them.

Thanks so much, Susan for the kind words. Restylane is a filler that lasts about a year. It filled in my deep lines and although I am a little bruised and swollen, I am delighted. The doctor used a dental block (ie pain killer) so I didn't feel the shots much. The shots were tiny injections that placed the filler where needed to correct my face. In my opinion it has taken off some years.
I would suggest Googling Restylane. There is also Radiesse and Perlayne and others. There are pictures of befores and afters. Do your homework and check out all possibilities as there are lots of options. If I were younger I'd consider a face lift, but not now.
The cost was about $1200 for 3 vials of the product whi*****luded the dental block.
Years ago I had a laser resurfacing of entire face which left my skin soft and refreshed. This is another procedure I might consider later.
Good luck to you in making the decision right for you. Do go to a physician who is board certified, however. Faces are something we can't hide easily so it has to be right.
Hugs,
Rudie

Thanks for the info Rudie. You really do look wonderful! I have seen the commercials for the restylane but they didn't go into any details of course and I assumed it was a lot more expensive than what you say (of course I am sure the price varies depending on the DR.) but a ball park figure is always nice to have - thanks so much. I need so many things worked on after this dramatic weight loss but you are so right about the face being something that you can't hide easily. I will check out the website. I am 55, post menopausal and with the weight loss the lines and wrinkles are really starting to show. I am lucky that I didn't end up with a lot of excess skin under my chin though. I just sort of look prematurely mature ... and tired.
