Medical Cards and ID Bracelets

I've been meaning to post this. A few weeks ago the subject of Medical ID bracelets came up. I don't have one but it was a good reminder to update my medical card for the trip I just returned from. For FREE you can easily make yourself and family members a medical ID card. I update mine periodically, laminate it, and clip it to my driver's license. That way it's right where a medic can find it.

Probably should have a bracelet too, but this at least is a start. It really holds quite a bit of info. On the front I have all of my personal info including doctors, contacts, and blood type. On the back there is room for meds and instructions about RNY, No blind NG tube, NO NSAIDS, and allergy to meds. I print several at a time. Mike and I each carry one.

Go to MedIDs.com You can print it for free. Of course there is also an offer to purchase ID bracelets there too.

Karen,

Thanks for telling us about that.  I have a lap-band ID card in my wallet, a medic alert bracelet on my wrist, and a list of my meds in my purse, but I like this medid thing because it consolidates all that into one place.

Karen, I've been doing this for years, since I'm diabetic and on so many meds.  I put my info on one side and my husband's info on the otherside.  There is no way he can remember what meds he takes, let alone what I take and am allergic to.  I'll definately have to update it after my rny.  I do have a medic bracelet that I got from the LTD Catalog.  I like it the best of all that I've ever had.  It's got a stretch band like a watch band, and is slim and doesn't look dorky at all. I got it a few years ago, so I don't know if they still carry them.  It was only about $8.00 and that's the right price for me! :)
The MedIDs site is great!

Karen,
The laminating was my personal favorite. Because I have so many allergies I kept a list in my wallet. A bottle of water spilled and smudged the whole thing.

When Dad and Mom lived here, there were frequent emergency trips to the hospital. In the excitement, I couldn't always remember all their long list of meds. The Paramedics suggested keeping a few copies of the info on the fridge so we could grab and go.

Thanks for the good information.

Yes, but why can't the info be encoded into a microchip placed behind my left ear?
I used to be opposed to that sort of thing, but with all my medical quirks and so forth, I think it'd be a good thing to do.
Works for dogs, doesn't it? LOL

check out the website http://www.utagice.com/acatalog/index.html

I ordered one of the dog tags. no mess, no fuss, just plug into a usb port and fill out the form. I ride motorcycles and 4wheelers and when i am on my 4wheelers, i don't like to carry my wallet with me due to maybe getting it wet and/or muddy. but these are the best things i have found. and most EMS units now carry a laptop so all your info is rigt there for the viewing.

Very interesting.  I just wish they had them in a bracelet rather than dogtags.  I have a bracelet, but I like the idea of using the computer chip.
