Am 4 weeks out today and need some friends my age
and was wondering if any of you have some of the same problems, I am about 350 now after pre-op and surgury and have lots of water weight and during this warm humid weather, I am swelling and having trouble with one of my feet. Have lots of pain, which am being treated for Blood clot with Vitamin K shots and also take diuretics and different meds. I thought I was doing pretty well but Now I do not know if I have lost any at all. I guess I am what is know as bandster Hell. do not get my 1st fill till July 2. and am really fighting not eating. I am trying to stay with bounderies that Nut and Dr. gave me . Just really discouraged about this. I also am a Salt freak, but am trying to not do that. Other that all this I think I am getting along pretty good, I haven't started exercising yet. I know I have a lot of work to do and am ready. I am no long denying the way I have to do this or why I did it. This is real for me.
I will 67 this july and I feel so forturenate and grateful for this opportunity. A new life I hope, I do so want to succeed at this. Any help you all can give me will be appreciated. This site and the people on it are so awesome. Carolyn

Welcom Carolyn
I also do not have any answers regarding the band surgery, but, there are lots who have had & done very well. You are in the beginning mode & I do know that it will
get easier from here on out. Take care of that blood clot first, then worry about the
eating problem. Are you into real food yet? I know that there is a liquid phase with
the band & hard to stick to at first. Hang in there & I bet you get the answers you
want from our group,
Welcome to the losers bench!!

Hi Carolyn:
Welcome to the board. I can't help you with band issues, but we're all in the same boat, so to speak. There are others here who have been banded who know what you're going through. Also others your age (or a little older), so you are among friends in your generation.
Your tool is still new, so give yourself time. Everyone has different problems to deal with. I know it will be tough for you to exercise ... do you have access to a pool (when they say you can get wet)? You could water walk and that would be good for the excess fluid. Also easy on your joints. I used to be 350 pounds, so I know what you're going through.
Let us know if we can help you with anything ... the bandsters are more informed on your tool, but the rest of us also can help with other issues.

Hi Carolyn
I do not have a band but I think some of what you are experiencing is normal for all surgery patients. I know I left the hospital heavier than I was when I got there and that didn't change for awhile. Can't remember if it was 4 weeks or not. They fill you with IV's during your stay and that adds weight. What concerns me most about your post is what you said about your blood clot. Are you sure you are taking vitamin K shots? I have had a clot in my leg for two years and I have to avoid vitamin K. K is what makes your blood coagulate, which you do not want. Could you be taking lovanox ( I am sure I misspelled that) ?
Well Anywhoo.....Welcome.

Aloha Carolyn.....and Welcome to the OFF and the Loser's Bench. I'm sorry you are going through a rough patch, but it will smooth out soon I'm sure.
As the others have said, I too do NOT have any direct experience with the band....most of our people here on Maui had RNY, and the few who had the band had their own different kinds of problems. I think what saved my bacon with the RNY was the "no appetite" for a long time afterwards....gave me a chance to drop hundreds of pounds before the dreaded hunger returned. Your path will be a little different in really needing to use your tool to feel full with very little and not pushing it (or so I'm told.) I, too, was close to 350 when I started and the pool walking really worked for me for a long time.
Good luck to you, and keep coming back here....there are a lot of bandsters who have done very well who can give you tips and tricks.
Aloha nui loa,
Maui Karen

Welcome, Carolyn, to the OFF. Though I'm not a Bandster, there are several here that ought to give you a shout. I sympathize with the problems you are having, and hope you will soon be feeling better.
I read your profile page, and it sounds like you're getting your head together. I, too, have been overweight all my life, and envy those who had the sense to do something about it years ago as I should have. I"m much older, and I hope a bit wiser now, and determined to make a difference in my future. Folks on this forum are definitely among the most supportive in all of OH.
Get some pics up on your page -- you'll be glad you did, so you can see your progress!
