Aloha darlin.......I wish you were coming to Maui, too. It will be wonderful to see Karen again. Last time she was here we had a few morning chats on my lanai and this time her visit will be very short, so we'll be lucky if we get in an afternoon or an evening since she's staying quite a ways away this time where before she was just down the street.

It is good to see you posting........and to hear you sounding happy and well. Congrats on losing 4 of those 10 lbs!! That is so encouraging. Keep up the great work.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

I woke up yesterday and came onto this forum.  When I saw the Thursday thread, I thought I was the first one on for Friday, so i started a TGIF thread, but luckily someone on the radio said something about it being Thursday.  I could have sworn it was Friday.  I was really taken aback.  Well, here it is Friday now, for sure, right?
I've started using the FitDay food journal faithfully.  Wow, I can't believe the calculations that come up for me.  I thought I was doing well, for instance, yesterday....my calories were 1221, protien 56.1, fat 51 and carbs 129.9
I guess I didn't know just how many carbs I was eating.  I knew I loved carbs, but I thought the carbs were mostly in breads and pastas.  I see now how wrong I was.  Yikes.  Today I had a half of a small canteloupe and already have eaten 36 carbs.  Looks like I've got to brush up on my carb counting.
Doing laundry today, paying bills, and vacuuming.  I'm planning on spending six weeks up at our house in Interlochen this summer, probably the end of June and all of July.  I'm not sure that hubby will 'allow' it, but I'm definately going to try.  Since my surgery is set for August 10 th I want to really enjoy my summer.
Well, enough rambling from me today.  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  Looks beautiful outside today.

Hi Laureen and my OFF family:

It got really cool here yesterday ... so cool I had to pull out my winter robe from the closet last night ... brrr ! I was done with my regular work at 8:30 (my two little business pages and reading the local briefs) but I found a pile of Religion and Sunday proofs, so I proofed those pages ... that took me to nearly 10 p.m. Was freezing all night at work and then bundled up at home.

Laureen, your job sounds wonderful, but as you said, it can be stressful, so it's nice they give you some perks to ease the pain. Free breakfast and happy hour on Friday, how nice!

Well, we had cake yesterday as one of the copy desk guys left ... we'll have multiple cakes at the end of June as a whole bunch of folks leave ... half the newsroom. Go****'s going to be so empty. So many good people leaving!

A coworker, Jeff, my favorite computer geek, says he may have a way to undelete the photos I mistakenly delete from my photo card early Thursday morning, so I may have the photos from my coworkers farewell lunch back. I hope so! Jeff knows how to do so many techie things.

Not much going on today, just work tonight. I got up later than I wanted ... slept until 10:30 a.m., so my thoughts of getting to the chiropractor and doing some shopping are gone. Not that I had much to get at the stores, but the chiropractor visit would have been good (he takes patients on a drop-in basis only after the initial visit). My hips feel out of whack, and therefore my back is hurting.

Well, have a good day.

Aloha and good morning OFF family....

Laureen I am so happy for you. Jobs are so few and far between these days, and you found something you like AND cut down your commute as well. I KNOW how demanding being a legal secretary can be! I was one for about five years before I started college to become a psychologist. I enjoyed it, but it was stressful. At least I was very young then and could handle stress much better than these days.

Speaking of work, I was asked to fill in for a "care coordinator" at the agency where I do the baby testing. She will be gone for a month and I'll be helping out with her cases as well as doing anything anyone needs. They can only have me work less than 20 hours or they would have to give me health insurance, other bennies, etc. That's perfect for me actually. The extra money will sure help right now, and I very much like the people who work at IMUA FAMILY SERVICES.

It's 7:00 a.m. and Maui has VOG yet again (volcanic ash floating over from the active volcano on the Big Island.). It is so thick that I can't see across the bay......ick!! I hope the trade winds come back before Karen C arrives. It's very hot and sticky right now, and she'll be staying down closer to Lahaina where it can be VERY HOT and humid because rarely a breeze down that end of the island. This will be a "Maui time" healing visit for Karen's friend and for her! I hope it refreshes them both and that they are filled with the peacefulness that is Maui.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend....and thanks for sharing your lives with me on a daily basis.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen
