Brenda's home

Just talked to Brenda, who just got back from the hospital after her procedure. She likened it to being "roto-rootered" (her words). The problem around her navel area has been cleaned inside so well, so hopefully the infection will be gone. The drain is still there. She was told not to get it wet at all. They kept her at the hospital a little longer because her heart rate/pulse ox was low, so she just got home a little while ago (and I'm a little behind in posting this because she called me at work, and I had work to do first). I called her this afternoon and left my work number in case she got home late, to get a report and let everyone know. She sounds good, not tired or anything, but says she is in a some pain.

Hi Eileen,

You're such a good friend to keep in touch with Brenda and let us know her progress. I sure hope this does the trick for her.

I was very concerned when she said they had her cleaning it with peroxide. After my last ankle surgery for the infection, when the wound wouldn't heal, they sent me to a wound care specialist. Turns out the tissue wasn't healing because using peroxide and Bernadine KILLS new tissue!  He said peroxide was ONLY to be used to clean a wound right after it happens to flush any foreign matter out of it.

Kind of makes you wonder if these guys ever speak to each other!

Yikes, I didn't know that! I too thought peroxide would help. Well, I'm not a doctor (to paraphrase Bones McCoy), I'm a journalist. What do I know? Guess not much. Thanks for the info. See, you really do learn a lot from your Internet friends.

Thank you Eileen, what a birthday for poor Brenda this year!! I hope takes her pain meds and rests,to speed her healing. One of the things I dislike about getting older is that we seem to be more vulnerable,of course it beats plan B!
Prayers for a healing and peace being offered for her today, good vibrations.
You are a peach to keep us updated!
