9 Yrs. Post Op in Sept 09 Saying HELLO

Hi everybody,

I don't feel over 50 or act like it either for that matter.    I had my VBGB Sept 2000 and it was the best thing I ever did for myself.  I've lost 225# in the first 2 yrs. and have maintained my BMI for the other 7.   I've succeeded my goal wt. & the doctors.   How did I do this?  Following the program 1 day, 1 step, 1 change, 1 choice at a time.  Small attainable realistic goals.  Believing in what I could not yet see.  And Blood, sweat, and tears too.  I've gotten 1,000's much more out of it than I put into it but not implying it was easy at all!!!!!  I've had no complications from WLS, except PS but doing fine now.  I love my volunteer mentoring and being in the buddy program. I've put on about 20# from my lowest weight and that's over a 7 yr. period, not all at once thank God.  My body seems to be comfortable where its at but personally I'd like to take 10# back off.

I like to get to know more people on this forum and make new friends.  Are there any long term post-ops on here?  I'd love to hear from you too.

I just updated my profile and added pictures of my fabulous journey.  Hope you'll take a look and get to know me better.

Big hugs,
Kat

 Kat,

Thank you for sharing.  Your post was encouraging.  I'm 14 months out and do struggle at times.  It's so easy to fall into old patterns and habits.  What is PS?  I'm not familiar with that.  PMS yes ..lol.. but not PS.

Thanks Susan and Millie.  PS means plastic surgery LOL  I prefer to call it cosmetic surgery....not plastic.  But I've not seen people post with CS, just PS.

We all struggle with those old habits.  But each tiny step you make toward to a new habit "becomes" habit.  I have millions of baby steps getting to 9 years.  I would suggest you to try to figure out the reasons why you are wanting that trigger food.  Work on the reason, emotionally.....the habits  we grew up with CAN be changed but not overnight.  Don't punish yourself for being human but recognize what you did and why you did it and take steps to change that.

hugs,
Kat

Aloha Kat.....Thank you so much for taking the time to come in here and post. Your experience is a GIFT for all of us who are following you in this life long path. It is SO wonderful to hear from someone who has maintained for almost ten years!! That lets us know that it is possible!

I was very lucky and had my PS (panniculectomy) just before Kaiser stopped covering it here in Hawaii. My experience was excellent, and I had no complications with either the RNY or the PS, except the occasional upset tummy over something I ate too fast or too much. I started at 319 and have been maintaining 155 to 160 for about a year now. Some say I'm too thin (I'm 5'10.5")......but I'd rather be that than too fat!!

Please keep coming back and sharing your experience with us. I KNOW you are helping many....and hopefully you will receive help in return.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Hi Maui Karen.  I envy you being there!!  I had abdomialplasty & Lipo Dec 2001.  I had a wonderful PS doc but got fat necrosis and battled with that for 4 months before the hole was healed and cleared up.  Anybody can get FN, c-secions, car accidents.  It is a risk with many incision lines and we hope we won't get them.  LOL  It had nothing to do with my surgeon and his talent.  But I've been very blessed and don't have anything to complain about.  Adversity always makes me stronger and more determined.  The storms aren't always pleasant but I learned to risk going through them instead of taking detours like I did all my life, and getting unpleasant results.

I also had Brachioplasty, Mastopexy, and Mammoplasty Aug 2002.  I love the results of all my PS and my incisions lines are like tiny, tiny pencil thin lines.  Some people can't even see them and have to have me point to where they are.

You look gorgeous.  Keep up the good work.

Kat

Welcome to OFF, Kat!  We love having people join us.

Thanks so much for posting and sharing with us. That is what so wonderful about our journeys....we learn from each other. I love that part. I am always open to learn something new.

I had my rny in October of '07 and have lost 126 pounds. I am down to goal but would like to lose some more weight. I had PS April 27th and that was a tummy tuck when I had my hernia taken care of. I had some problems and am still being treated but I am on the road to recovery and that is the main thing.

Thanks so much for sharing and I hope to see more of you on here.

Thanks Brenda.  I hope you come thru your problems with PS.  I would do it all over again.  You will love being able to see your feet and not carry that extra skin around.

hugs,
Kat

There has been times that I said that I would not have the TT if I knew what was going to happen...then I look down and see my feet for the first time in my life and then I say I would do it again. I was born with a chubby tummy and always had one. Now there is just some swelling and I know that will go away...but I can see my feet....HOORAY!!!!!!

Wow Kat,
Those are some awesome accomplishments.  It's so good to hear from folks that far out and know that it is still the best thing you ever did.  I hope to see you around here, and learn from you, as I do the others.

Sounds to me like life is pretty good, and yipes are we really over 50?
Blessings to you..

Walking with you on this journey, Mary
