Diabetics
i can only speak for self...i have never had diabetes so i never had the "diagnosed" symptoms..but i do tend to get low sugar episodes..when i really load on proteins and no carbs or when i have had too many carb spikes sometimes...also coffee can cause low episodes believe it or not- no rhyme or reason...anyhow- i try to get some peanut butter and crackers in fast- the combo of the protein and carb - helps...
once you get to eating again after surgery ; hopefully you can hit that balanced spot quickly and it is really pretty easy to keep from having the lows or highs- follow your doc's orders ....most diabetics get off meds quickly-not all..joyce s still takes a few meds...it depends on your body...
are ya gettin excited?????!!!!!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

I'm not diabetic but if I forget to eat, I get all light headed, shakey and confused. Peanut butter, straight off a spoon, a dish of cottage cheese, a cheese stick, anything protein helps. My coordination gets too bad to try and spread peanut butter on a cracker.
Good question about the glucose tab. Don't know the answer to that. Your surgeon or dietitian may have specific instructions so ASK.

Hypoglycemia is a very common thing for us after RNY. I usually carry one of those small packages of crackers with peanut butter on them. That's helps get the sugars back up.

Hi Jan
Are you type 1 or 2 on the diabetis? After your surgery the glucose tablets should be fine for you.
however, your Doc will adjust whatever meds you are on as the weight starts droppin. I would bet by 6 months you will be off all meds if you are on themnow. I was for 3 yrs, but am back on
them now. That is because I got non-compliant with my eating & the diabetis got out of control
again. You will have the surgery date here soon!!
