Personally, I eat a lot of cheese.  I buy the blocked cheese and cut it into cubes.  Go through a lot.

George, I just had one of those "duh" moments. I love those little cheese cubes but don't buy them because they're too expensive. Sometimes I make myself laugh. What a dummy I am!  Great idea...gonna put a block o' cheese on my list!

We got our cheese slicer in Italy many years ago.  Hardly ever used it before WLS.  Glad we bought it now.

Thanks George..I will go ahead and do this.    Again, my Nutr. has dicouraged me from eating much cheese.....I have learned much from OH and I do tell her what I have learned. Needless to say she is never impressed.I would love to change and find a Nutr who actually cares however the one I have is part of the Bariatric Team so  for now, I will grin and bear it but will adapt my food intake according to the wisdom of those, inc you who have actually "been there and done it"!
Thanks
Merrie

My nut and I do not see eye to eye.  As soon as I was one year out, I asked my surgeon if I had to see her any more.  When you have the surgery with my doc, you have to agree to quarterly meetings with the nut, as well as monthly support group meetings.  He told me I was doing fine, did not need to see her any more unless I wanted to.  Right.

NUTS are notorious for being conservative and very set in the regimen they set up for us. I agree with Eileen, changing things up can certainly help. I'd try upping your protein to 80-100 grams a day. Just my 2 cents.

Fish and shrimp are very high in protein.  The pepperoni chips mentioned are yummy....I use turkey pepperoni(lower in fat) and you just lay them out on a paper towel, cover them with another one, and nuke them for about 30 seconds, or until they are crisp....like potato chips.  17 slices of turkey pepperoni is only 70 calories. Skim milk....a good deal...protein, calcium, counts towards your fluids totals, but yes, some carbs too...but we need those as well.

Okay, protein drinks would help, too. Finding one that you like is the challenge. If you haven't yet, try going to vitalady.com. Michelle sells samples of lots of different brands for about $2 each. I can't stand the creamy "milk shake" types, but love Fuzzy Navel flavor from Syntrax. It's peach/orange and not thick at all. Might give it a try with some samples.

Hope this helps. Take care

Merrie,

I hit a major stall at about 7 months out. The scale was stuck just over 200 pounds until I even considered shaving my head to see it move. After what seemed forever, it passed.

Mix up your routine by adding more protein and water. It may be as simple as having a cheese stick and 1/2 apple in the afternoon and some cottage cheese mid morning.

Whatever exercise you are doing, try another form a couple of days a week. If you walk in the evening try an extra 10 minute walk in the morning.

Hugs
Annette

I am not going to give you advice for getting over your stall, because I never hit one.  Or if I did, I didn't know, because I only weigh at the doctor's office.  But, I can tell you that when I was losing the most weight was when I was eating a lot of protein and drinking tons of water.  I am a strong advocate of exercise too.  When I am not walking or riding my bike, I think of ways to improve my exercise inside my home.   Floor exercises are a great way to stretch your large muscles, and while you don't really burn a lot of calories doing it, you are still doing conditioning your body for strength and agility and these are needed to do the more complicated exercises like running or bike riding.

Hope your stall passes.  You are at the right place for information.

Merrie,  This is the greatest place to learn about WLS.  From people in the know, that have experienced it.  I haven't had surgery yet (8-10-09) but have started to practice some of the techniques I've learned here.  I just can't wait until I'm restricted and can't snack at night.  I've been using FitDay to log my food intake and it really is an eye opener.  I walk my dogs, but not nearly enough.  I'm just plain lazy.  Hopefully I'll have more energy to exercise after my surgery.
I know you'll overcome the plateau, because everyone does.

I can't tell ya how to get off the plateau as I am on one as well.  I can tell you that the Fuzzy navel protein that Susan mentioned is delicious.  I have hated almost every protein drink I have tried.  I bought the Fuzzy Navel upon Susan's reccommendation and I love it.  I mixed it with water and was surprised I actually liked it.  I mixed it with Crystal Lite Sunrise natural orange flavor and it was awesome.  I have also mixed it with Crystal Lite Sunrise flavor Tangerine/Strawberry and that was great also.  I have tried other flavors of Crystal lite with less success.  The problem wasn't the protein  the crystal Lite was.  This is the first protein I have ordered a second canister of. (bad grammar, but ya get the idea)

Good luck
