yes, but, if I said something and then Michelle said something, people would listen to her even though I said the same thing.....

I listen to anybody, but like I said, my bariatric docs tell us not to do the shakes ... so I'm getting conflicting opinions here.

Michelle, Just jumping in here. I'm LOVING the calcium crystals in my shake! Sure cuts down on the number of pills per day. Also like the Tender Vitamins that arrived just a couple of weeks ago.

WEll, I use all this stuff myself, you know? And odd as it is, it IS the cheaper way to get all we need.

Glad you like 'em, cuz they are smooth, no grit. I like that.

I used diuretics for years and found out that there are both potassium using and potassium sparing kinds.  Ask your PCP if you need to be switched to a different kind.  They get into habits of what to prescribe, you may need something different.  I supplement my potassium with over the counter ones from Meijer, or whichever store has a good price and a two-for-one.

If your 20 grams of protein a meal are not all complete grams, they don't count, or at least the protein doesn't, the calories still do.  I mean having all the components, all 23 (is it still 23 enzymes?).  Meat sources do, vegan sources do not unless they are combined properly.

I got bored with protein shakes until I realized that using them kept my weight up and my appetite lower.  I figured out that protein powder mixed into my cereal "milk" (I used unsweetened almond milk) makes the shredded wheat and Uncle Sam cereal taste better and saves me choking down a gritty shake.  No, they don't have to be gritty, but I don't always have the patience to blend thoroughly

I wish I could eat bananas but I am fighting to keep weight off and I have trouble remembering that it only takes half a banana to make a serving.

aww gritty shakes, not all are, I don't blend mine I just stir with spoon, I use the BSN lean desserts and the IDS brand ones....so so good....and after almost 9 years of shakes I think I can tell good from bad...

I'm on triamterene, which is supposed to be potassium sparing. But the discussion on low protein causing edema is verrrry interesting. I'll have to discuss this with the bariatric center next week and see what they say.
