Good news and sad news
Hi everyone
I haven't posted in a long time, but I am here everyday to read the posts. I stopped posting when I was denied for second time for WLS. It seemed so futile to keep posting about being denied for out-of-country surgery.
Canada is behind the US in getting on board the WLS train, so thousands of people have applied for out-of-country WLS through our universal health care system. What could take a year or more here, was taking only a few months in the States. I was turned down because I am a "lightweight" and was told that I could wait and have surgery here in Canada.
Now the provincial gov't is pumping millions into the bariatric system in order to save the money from leaving the country. The good news for me is that the wait-time is significantly shorter, and I have seen a surgeon in Toronto and have all of the dates lined up for the dietitian, social worker, internist, etc. I will probably be operated on in late summer or early fall. I am thrilled and can't wait for this long, arduous journey to be over.
I wish that all I had was good news.
In the meantime, my 69 year old, beloved sister who had a virulent form of breast cancer five years ago and survived, died this past week of congestive heart failure. Kathy was a woman who took her health seriously and walked miles everyday. She was slim and ate a diet that was very low in fat. In February, she and another sister were using walking poles for two hours along the sand in Florida - Kathy had a zest for life and was thrilled that she had been able to stay fit after having had cancer. Out of the blue, she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and died within four months.
We are devastated and heartbroken. Kathy's life was not as easy one at times. Her husband died six years ago and then the stage four breast cancer... and then the heart issue.
We all had a chance to say goodbye - four sibs left, her two sons and their families. She had a multitude of people who came to see her during the six days she was in hospital. Kathy was loved.
Even though I haven't been writing, I still feel a closeness with all of you, and I wanted you to know my good news and my sad news. I know that there has been a lot of discussion here about praying, asking for prayers, etc. At this moment, I don’t care about the controversy and ask that you pray for my sister, Kathy, who left us much too soon. Margaret Hold your loved ones tightly.

I'm with you and you have my thoughts and my prayers. A dear friend of mine, Margie, a 15-year ovarian cancer survivor and a kidney transplant survivor, died last Wednesday. She was like a second mother to me. I'm still crying over her loss. She went very suddenly ... there was seemingly nothing wrong with her (although she was diabetic, and I guess that was the problem ... when you're diabetic, it affects all your organs so much).
I'm glad you're making progress on your WLS. Don't be a stranger. Even if you never have surgery, you're still welcome here. This is Obesity Help, not WLS Help. We're all here for you.

margaret! i have missed you! thought maybe you were just busy teaching...i am very sorry to hear of your sister's passing..and certainly have her -and you- in my prayers....
I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Margaret, please know that we all grieve with you for your sister. Losing someone that is close to us is never easy..whether it is fast or not. Please know that you and your family will be in my prayers. May He give to you and yours a strength, understanding, compassion and most of all the peace that you all so need now.
I would like to congratulate you on the upcoming surgery. Like Eileen said, it doesn't make a difference if you have wls or not. We are a group of people offering support and friendship to each other and being overweight is our common bond. You have been a part of our little "family" from day one even if you never had surgery.
Please continue to post so we can all chat...and you know how we all like to chat.
