Does anyone here know what's up with Facebook?  I admit, I got a user id on facebook about 6 months ago & poked around in it, but didn't find anything too interesting......

Now, it seems I'm getting 5 or more emails each day where someone on Facebook wants to add me as a Friend.    Most of them are people I recognize from the OH OFF board.

Now I love computer stuff, but don't really know anything about facebook.     Can anyone here share the ways they use Facebook & if they like it?     If I'm not going to use it regularly, maybe I should delete my username there???

It's got me wondering......

I don't use it as much as some others do. I check to see what some friends are doing (and I have reconnected with old coworkers, high school and college friends, etc.) through Facebook. I check in on it every day or so ... I know some use it much more. After this past week, when I found out from Facebook that a dear friend had died (and her daughter posted it on her daily status, while I wasn't called at all), I think I might check more often. Seems I'm left out of the loop.

That makes sense.   Are you getting emails regarding people that want to add you as friends?   Also, I get messages about being asked to join in "food fights", calendar reminders, "snowball hits" and other things that seem strange.     If you had 100 friends, would you need to look at each one separately to find out what's happening with them?  That must be time consuming, right?

If I get an email from Facebook, I delete it.  I check in MAYBE once a week and click on ignore on all the stupid stuff.  It is time consuming, but with Facebook I can look for people that pop into my mind, plus keep in contact with my family in NY (if I choose to).  And they are always posting pictures.

Hi George.  Actually one of the invites I received was to be a "friend" to you.   so here's my question - did you send that request, or did Facebook automate it somehow????    I guess I'm not sure what's real & what's not...

Since I have never asked anyone to be my friend on Facebook, I assume it generates it on its own.  Sometimes it actually states you have common friends with this person or something like that.  Seriously, I do NOTHING on Facebook except read.

You two were probably suggested as becoming friends. That is one of the functions of it. You can suggest people that you think might have something in common that may not even find each other. You don't have to accept, you can have the notifications changed.

Yeah, I have a lot of those strange things too, but I ignore most of them. I don't have time to do all those things. I just check on the posts ... just to see what people are doing. You also have to make sure you don't "friend" someone you don't know. I got an e-mail today from some woman I didn't know who wanted to be my friend. I didn't respond because I didn't know her. So be careful out there.

One of my DD s lives on it!  I swear she post every time she goes to the bathroom.  I will be places and have friends say she has done so and so.

I don't have the time or interest of getting caught up in it.  I spend to much time here.  I don't have an user id and I still get request to join and add friends.

The fact that it knows which people on it are ones I know have connections with is a little scary to me.

Yeah, I think it would be kindof spooky to post what's going on in such an open forum.    On the other hand, OH is open to anyone at all, so maybe it's not too different....
