I will die sooner than later if I do not loose weight!!!!
Hello and before I start I want to let you know that I received your pm this morning and was going to write back to you.
I am surprised that your friend and I look so much alike but you know what they say..we all have a twin. Make sure you to tell her that her "twin" say****o her also.
Please...whatever you do..never give up hope. Hope is sometimes the only thing that we have to hang on to...so keep on hanging whatever you do!
Know that even if you are never able to have the surgery we are here for you and you are always welcome with open arms and hearts. Food, like everyone says here, is an addiction. It is hard a battle that most of us fight each day. But the good news is that we can beat the monster and though he might never go totally away he will see that we are serious and might stay back some.
Change comes when you finally get sick and tired of being sick and tired. Nothing is going to work for you until you get to that point in your life. Only you can answer this question...are you TRULY sick and tired of being sick and tired? Don't feel bad if the answer is no to that. Just know that eventually the answer will be yes. If it is yes now now is the time to act on it. Find a food plan that will work for you. If you don't know of one ask your doctor for help...they will help if you ask. I used the Atkins food plan for losing weight and still do at times. That works well for me. I have the web site on my favorites and get e-mails from them on occasion. Just go to Atkins.com or something like that and they are there to help you to some extent. I use the Slim Fast low carb shakes once in a while. They have 20 grams of protein and protein is what is going to help you to lose weight. I now use 1/2 slim fast and 1/2 milk since the thickness is just to much for me now. That just adds to the protein anyway.
Know that you can come to us when you feel like you are messing up and we will try to help you get your caboose back on the track. Know that we will do what we can but only you can do it in the end. And that includes if you have wls too. You can be the only one to use the tools that you are given. They are there for you IF you use them to the best of your ability.
Please continue to post and let us get to know you...it really does help more than you could ever imagine. The best of luck to you and just keep in mind that YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!

Hi:
We were all where you are. I go to a pain clinic for my fibro and spinal arthritis and degenerative disc disease. My pain doc told me if I didn't lose weight, I'd be in a wheelchair, and as I'm single and live alone, that would mean I'd be dependent on someone to take care of me. He said what do you want, the wheelchair or life? I choose life.
I always said I'd never have surgery because I enjoyed food too much ... well, guess what, you can still have food after surgery, just not as much. My mom told me after I told her of my decision, "You'll gain it all back." I'm struggling right now, but I'm determined not to gain it back. My problem now is exercise, because of my knee replacement surgery ... my knee still hurts too much to do a lot. But I'm going to try.
As for diets, try using a smaller plate to make yourself eat smaller portions. Margo suggested the South Beach diet ... good, sensible diet. It's better to be sensible than to lose a lot of weight fast because you don't keep it off. If you can exercise (swimming or water walking is very good for fibromyalgia), that would help you a lot.
Do you know Margaret from this board ... she's weightlossdreamer. I believe she just got approved for WLS in Canada after a long battle. She is, like you, what's called a "lightweight" (hate that term). Contact her, she may have some advice for you.
Don't give up hope ... if you want the surgery, keep pushing for it. If you don't want it, then try to diet again. There's nothing wrong with losing weight the "normal" way. It does work for a lot of people. For some of us, though, it leads to yo-yo dieting and failure, and then the surgery was the only way. It was for me. I dieted on and off my whole life, from the time I was a teen on up. I was a chubby kid, fat teen, obese adult. This was the only one to stop it.
Good luck to you. If you need to talk, e-mail me.

Johanna,
Insurance companies are famous for rejecting certain surgeries the first time they're submitted, so keep trying, and keep searching for Canadians who've had the surgery and Canadian doctors. Emphasize your health issues, because they're really serious. The smart insurance companies discovered that it's cheaper to pay for surgery once, than decades of disease management.
Also, long ago, 63 was an "old lady", but not anymore! As you lose weight and feel better, you're going to feel younger, too. Don't forget: 60 is the new 40!
Focus all your energy on solving this-- we overeaters have always given up when it got hard, but you just can't do that.

Aloha Canadian friend ......
Oh, your cries for help are so familiar to me and many of us in here. There comes a moment in our lives when we MUST do something. Mine came when I reached 319 lbs. and was going to become a tutu (grandma in Hawaii) for the 2nd time. My children live in Calif. and I wanted to be able to go there to be with them for birth of baby and then later to be able to get down on the floor and play with them. Plus, living in Hawaii, I did NOT want to miss out on snorkeling, swimming, beach walks, etc. Well, at 319 lbs...I did NOT fit into airline seats, could not get down on the floor, and definitely would NOT put on a swimsuit to do ANYTHING!
That was my "lightbulb moment." Getting news of 2nd grandbaby due. Long story short, and almost three years later, I am HALF of what I weighed three years ago....158......and can physically DO all of those things which I mentioned above.
You have made a BIG step in the right direction by sharing your feelings in here with us. My career before I retired was as a clinical psychologist, so I know how important it is to share feelings...and not just bottle them up, or eat or drink them away.
My worry about your losing weight right now is that you are on the borderline of eligibility for WLS (at least in the US) which I believe is needing to be 100 lbs. overweight. If you lose 40 lbs...you will definitely not be eligible it seems to me. However, as you describe the situation in Canada, you may have an entirely different set of qualifications than we do here. I would suggest you reach out to the Canadian WLS sisters in here and find out how they did it.
I wish you nothing but good luck, happiness and success. Please keep sharing in here. The support and genuine caring is totally awesome!!

Which province are you in? There are forums for each of the provinces on this site. The URL for Ontario is http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/ON.
I'm guessing, but I think that the URL for other provinces would be the same except that you would substitute, for example, BC for ON. Go the Canadian sites and take a look at what others are doing.
Millions of dollars have been put into the WLS area in Canada and more and more doctors are available. My surgery will be performed by a doctor at the MIS Group in Toronto - just have your MD refer you. This is their URL http://www.misgroup.ca/
Good luck.
Margaret
Edited to add - the out of country OHIP approvals have not stopped. Many, many people apply for and are given approval daily.
I should have known that you are in Ontario with OHIP!!!! Just follow my link and you can get to the Ontario forum.

To Whom.....Okay....I weigh more now than I have ever weighed. I simply have got to do something.
I am 63 years old, I have diabetes 2, I have fibromyalgia (supposedly), I ache, I am weak,
I cannot bend and sit on floor.
My clothes don't fit.......etc. etc.I feel ugly and tired and sore......
I have a constant pain on my right side just under my rib cage.
I have learned that I do not tolerate milk and cheese - I get gassy and diarrhea if I eat too much..I love ice cream
I have chronic indigestion....find that reducing coffee (which I love) has reduced that problem.
I still have what seems like hot flashes...but I have had a hysterectomy when I was about 45.
I am VERY depressed but I feel that I might be able to diet, although I simply do not want to. I simply have to do something! I have no energy left and no hope and I feel that I will only fail yet and again.
I know that this is all so bad for me...220 pounds for a 5'3" old lady will kill me sooner than later, Or I will have one of the many ailments caused by being fat....like diabetes 2 which I supposedly control with diet...but I know that won't last.
I do not know what to do.
I am thinking of surgery, and yet I still feel that I will gain all the weight back.
I need something that will give me results and help me to feel better.
I intellectually know that a great weight loss would significantly change my life for the better and that all this depression would vanish....but....I am so weak and scared to try it and fail again!.
What do I do?
Is there a diet which will initially show fast results in hopes that it will inspire me to keep going?
Please help..I am at my wits end!
I intend to follow-up on your advise! I will try to see what happens.
My gut thought - at this moment anyway - is that it will all be to no avail, yet some of you feel that I can still find a way to have OHIP help in paying for surgery.
In my heart of hearts - I know that I will fail trying to diet on my own.
I just had a Dairy Queen to reward myself for the hard work I did in my garden all day for heaven's sake! That is ONE DAY and I am off the wagon.
Seems like the over 50 women have much wisdom. I thank you all so very much for your replys. I will keep you informed!
Fat Ferdinand!
ok-here's my take................IF you want it badly enough YOU WILL HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!
so far you are frustrated and down but you are not yet fighting for it!!!!!!!!!!!
if you roll over and accept the decision you got as the final answer you will not achieve your goals.....
sorry...not to sound ahrsh but this is a mjor life changing thing you are talking about and it does not happen overnight--no matter where you live; ins companies aren't just handing out money unless you can prove you are worthy--so--you have made a start...keep at em!!!
go to the canadian boards and read- talk to folks--and here -many will be happy to help but only you can decide and act!!!
we are here no matter what....and i think "ferdinand" would be better without saying "Fat Ferdinand"!!! you need to cahneg the mindset and we are here to help with that as welll...again only you can do it!!!!
hugs and not meaning to sound mean!!!!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.
