OT: Play That Funky Music:
I know this is a little off topic, but Linda and I were talking about dancing and heels and it reminded me of how much music plays in my life. I have an iPod and it is loaded with music from every decade. I have a lot of the sixties and seventies because those are the tunes that got me through puberty and adolescents and being a beginning mother. I also like the music from the eighties because a lot of it is remakes of a better time. Plus, Madonna and Cyndi Lauper are my heroines. I think through the nineties, I pretty much tuned it out. I like a lot of the stuff that is coming out now. I am a little different from most people, or I think that I am in that I like country and R&B and rock and roll and heavy metal and pop and rap. I think I like a taste of it all.
Here’s what I wonder: What do you guys listen to and when do you listen? I use my iPod when I walk, when I clean house, and when I am sitting in my office. I don’t usually use it when I ride my bike because I need to focus and want to hear if someone is honking at me. I have a grouping for walking that starts out slow and moves to really fast and then winds back down. Since I do some dancing, obviously music plays an important role in that activity. But, I think music does more than just motivates me to move, I think it makes me calm and happy.

I used to listen to music non-stop but over the years have just gotten away from it. Seems the only time I listen to it now is on the radio in the car. I'd love to have an iPod but....I hate to show my ignorance but I have no idea where to get the music or how to get it on the iPod! I know it's probably second nature to most kids! Your likes in music sound like mine except for the heavy metal and rap. One of the reasons I got away from listnening so much is the players available weren't very good for walking and biking. My last one was actually a CD player you straped to your arm!!!
Girl!! Do you have any "younguns" around?? They can load you up! You can pick out your songs by artist,or song name. You will love it!!
I have a 11 year old grandson that is better than his mom on the computer, and she works tech support!
LS just sent me down memory lane,I got to at least see a peep of many stars,we would go down to CBS and wait for them to come out,I saw Sly and the Family Stone,Hendrix,Janis, and much more.
James Brown,Count Basie, and Lena Horne lived down the street,by the park. This was pre-intergration days.
This was the Ed Sullivan' show on Sunday night,we then would go to Central Park. I do not envy the young people their world,I feel kind of sad for them...
James Brown would sign dollar bills and give them to us,being kids,we went right to Carvels with them....LOL.
This was in Saint Albans,Queens. LL Cool J lived in Hollis, not far away, and was known to show up at house parties,I only saw him in the park though.
Ahhhhh, my purse is filled with memories.
If you need more help with your Ipod, please PM me!
Peace Out!!

Listen girl,I am in sales. Select your geek, and get his card,he gets commisions, and NEEDS your business.
He has a computer or as my grands say 'puter right there. Take your notebook and pen, because our generation are visual learners.
He will help you go to a site where you can get your music, just of course do not give your password. My first Ipod only held 150 songs,it was free,I won it at work,I have out grown that one.
Make a decision based on your needs,I would start writing down the songs I want! Isn't it exciting?? I am excited for you.
As I tell the "younguns",I have two speeds, slow, and stop.
I am 58,but I have been on 'puters since 1983,they took up a huge room,we had to run the "end of day records",you could hear the modems dialing, and if one stopped, you had to restart it.
I come from the generation of "Do not fold, spindle,or mutilate",so I get around LOL.
Please share your experience as you open a whole new world for yourself.
Huggers!!
Power to the people!!!

Girl!! You are preaching to the choir!! I like all the music you do,and the best music today, are the re-makes from the 60's!
All of my life is tied to music, when I was carrying my eldest,I played Nina Simone, and Stevie Wonder,he had his baby around the same time, and came out with "Isn't She Lovely".
My grandsons can sing all of the Beatles songs. You do NOT wanna be around here on kareoke night, for we truly disprove the myth that all of my people can sing!! We have a ball though.
My Ipod is fully loaded,I also have a system that could make my little town house rattle!
My ex used to get pissed at my daughter, for she had New Kids on the Block postered on her wall, and even went to South Boston to try and find them!!
My grandson just walked in and I have MJ's video's on,he proceeded to tell me his song has been remixed by a group called "Alien Ant Farm",darned if I know them!!
I still have albums and a turn table, and one day my grand asked me what those big CD's (records) were, boy did I feel old for a second.
If the Stones play until they are dead,I will be there!
I
LOVE music. Except for rap!! My boys do not do rap, they do not speak ghetto, and they know where the waist is on their pants....no offense,it is just who we are.

My grandson was curious about our old vinyls too. I said they are like CDs. He just laughed. When I am fast walking, I listen to Janic Joplin. Love, love love her. I have all the Beatles and all of the Jackson fives and just Micheal. I love love love listening to all of the old stuff too. I am listening to Elton John now. Oh my god. I love music. Takes my mind off of life.

This is interesting...music plays a important part of my life. It can help me through a depression, calm me down when I am upset and help to heal my broken heart too. Then again sometimes it helps to make my heart feel broken again when certain songs come on. I associate many things that has happened in my life to the music I heard then. Like the morning after my father died I heard "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" by Simon and Garfunkle. To this day when I hear that song I know that someone is going to die...and they usually do. Not sure why that happens...
I like many kinds of music...country, soft rock, oldies but goodies, Christian, classical and I know that I am missing some. I am not a fan of heavy metal or rap. I just can't tolerate that stuff. I am getting to like some jazz which I never really cared for.
I like to listen to music in the car while I am driving...mostly by myself and then I sing out loud..which is a good thing that I am by myself. I like to listen to it when I am here by myself...singing yet again. I love to sing and use to do a lot of it before all the meds that I had for my so called asthma (it ended up being the cardiomyopathy...but that is a long story) ruined my voice. I use to be a soprano but not anymore...and I miss singing so much. Music is in just about every part of my life, which I said earlier.
My Mom couldn't hold a tune in a bushel basket as she use to say. My Dad was a good singer and a guitar player. He use to sing and play on the radio back in the 40's. He and his brother had a band too. So...my bet is I got the love of singing and music in general from my Dad....ha ha
I like the way you get us to think. Keep it up, please. I enjoy it.

Brenda! You made me think more!! My dad sang in a gospel group for years! They called themselves "The 7 Wonders".
We always danced on weekends though,I danced with my brother and sister (I did not like my mom)....LOL.
I know what you mean about the songs that make you sad,I have a few. "The Arms of an Angel" is my sister's song when she passed.
I have plenty more,including Elton John's "Sad Songs",but I basically stay away from those...Grin!
Love ya!
PS,my mom could not carry a tune in a bucket,my dad was West Indian and had a voice like velvet,so I know where my love of music, and the theatre comes from. Mom liked it too,but her talent was else where, may she rest in peace!! .....and NOT visit me...
