Snacking and lunch carrying suggestions
As far as bad snacks, I found a new vice, that is not bad for you. I buy the big jar of pickles for less than $4. Each day I take one or two and cut them into spears (quarters). When I am hungry, I grab one. And feast on it.
To carry it, just get an insulated lunch bag. WalMart has the blue ice packs for a decent price and you would be surprised how long it keeps the pickle cold.
Oh and another tip for everyone when using those ice packs. Put the ice pack at the top of the bag, because heat rises, cold sinks. I have a lunch bag big enough to hold 18 cans of soda. In the bottom I place a pint of cheese in a Ziploc container, my meat for the day, and the pickle. And maybe a yogurt. The ice pack is placed on top. Then another layer of food; vegetables, another yogurt and maybe SF cookies. Add a smaller ice pack.
My ice packs are still cold when I get home at 7AM (from 2PM the previous day).

Yuck! Sorry George, I can't stand pickles! Wish I did eat them. The only way I do is a small amount of dill pickle relish in tuna, chicken, or potato salad. Will not eat a burger with them. Didn't eat them when I carried my three kids. My cooler would be filled with CHEESE, yogurt, meat, more CHEESE, and I'd carry a jar of peanut butter but it would have to be Peter Pan lowfat crunchy.
Strange when I was a kid I ate bologna sandwiches with mayo and pickles.

When I take the grands to the park, which is at least twice a week, I use the homemade ice packs. I fill those gallon baggies with water and I use the used ones for this...well, I wash them first and fill them with water and then I put one on the bottom and one on the top of our lunch pack. I have long lost the little cold pack that came with our bag. Of course, all we take are juice boxes, water, cheese, yogurts, and peanut butter and jelly. I usually take an old sheet and we spread it out near the sandbox and I usually pack extra because little Mathew invites others to come eat too. LOL
