I started this thread so I wouldn't hijack lightswitch's thread.

I just googled iPods and good Lord....there are dozens of models! I just need something simple that will be easy to use, easy to load, and not cost a fortune. Some of the cheap models look so small and easy to lose. Then there's one that looks like an iPhone you play games and movies on! What do they mean by 2nd Generation iPods?

So help a Sister out here....what do I need?!?!?

Girlfriend,IMHO,go to Best Buy,or some store like that and have them help you and explain to you, that's what they are for,I would not buy online. Hey,this way,you get your own personal adviser!

PS,ask if they do price matching, that gets them on the ball too!

I bought my two from apple. They engrave them also. I have the smaller 30g one....but it holds about 8,000...

there are smaller mp3 players that work well also, you might want to try one of those first before investing in iPod. Mp3 players are relativley inexpensive.

Just my opinion

If you do decide to get an iPod, start small, unless you are planning on filling it with thousads of songs.  We got our granddaughter, who is twelve, one of the Nano.  Of course, you will get headphones with it, but you might want to try them out in the store. I have ears that are hard to satisfy, so I had to buy me a good set of earphones.  Plus, you will need to buy you a case to carry it in and that will attach to you or your clothing.

Start small or, like Darlene says, try the Mp3 players first.

I have the smallest one, the Shuffle, and I love it.  It holds an incredible amount, was realtively cheap, and is very light.  I clip it on my clothing while I exercise, don't even know its there.  I know all this technology is confusing, at least for me.  Good luck!!!

I was looking at that one. Is it easy to chose the songs you want or do you just listen to what ever 'Shuffles' up?

The Shuffle doesn't allow you to choose, like you said it just shuffles up.  I have an Ipod touch(similar to the IPhone without the phone).  It really depends what you want it for.  The touch lets me keep all my contacts (loads directly from my MS Outlook) and calendar events also.  I can use it in a pinch to access the Internet, when I don't want to carry a laptop (which I just did while out of the country).  It is cumbersome for this, but it was nice to be able to pull up some US news while in Mexico recently. I also load movies that I watch when traveling.  If you just want music, then go with a standard IPOD but I really use mine a lot for so much more. I have shyed away from the Iphone because I use my Ipod touch for a lot of things and I like to know that my battery on the phone is available when I need a phone. When traveling I load both movies and audio books.  It passes the time nicely in airports or on the plane.

I put a specific play list in it and it just goes through what I've already chosen, or I can skip around and go to a specific song.  Sooo easy.
