              I AM A FLIPPIN NUT CASE !!!!!
The older I get, the more I learn, the "greener" I become.
I will not take a plastic bag from a store, I use the reuseable ones, or if I just get a few items I carry them out. I carry a glass with me so I don't have to use paper cups, and of course my travel coffee mug. If I do get fast food I go in the store and tell them it is "to eat here"( even if I take it) so they won't waste a paper bag .( did you know they HAVE to give you a bag at the drive through??WHY??
I use more epsom salt, egg shells and banana peels around my garden and less Miracle grow. I even started my first compose barrel this year. I buy Hunter organic rice cereal so they won't use the other and bought them a baby grinder so they won't have to buy baby food. I eat eggs from free range chickens. I am not militant, but I have come to realize our dear earth is in big doodoo if we don't start reining in. I haven't used chemicles on the lawn for bugs because I don't want to harm the good ones, I have always had this thing for earthworms, they are just the best. Faith and I are always comparing who finds the biggest ones when we garden. Then we carefully find them a soft spot of dirt.  So when I asked for what to do about chiggers, you see where Iwas coming from. But I thought "well, just this once", so Faiths party isn't ruined. I went to the hardware store to get some Sevan to sprinkle around. I talked with the local "expert" who said he has a bunch of grandkids who roll around on his yard all summer and he uses This stuff you just hook on the garden hose and spray around the grass, the directions say it lasts for 2 months but his wife does it every couple of week.
( Good grief, that just can NOT be good for grandkids to be rolling around on all summer) Its called Spectracide, or something close. So I came home and used it.  Come back out in an hour and was working away, leveling the bird bath, putting down new marble chips, as I am bending down spreading the chips a lightening bug flys by , acting very erratic and drunk. Oh CRAP !! I am going to kill sweet little lightening bugs?? Then I notice one of the robins that follow me around all the time, get a big bug and fly to the garage roof. Dont eat that!! , It might make you sick!! Yes, now I am talking to and worrying about the robins..What have I done. I just wanted to kill some nasty chiggers..

Girl, the birds are so accustomed to the poisons that a little seven dust through the bug will not hurt them.  I'm all for taking care of the eart, but I am not going to get ate up by no dang chiggers either.

I do, however, admire your green ways.  I am leaving my carbon print on every thing and every where.  I do prefer to buy local at farmers' markets and I like eating free range meats, but even those free range animals are not really happy on  a farm.  We have them here and they are still couped up, just not as tightly as the factory farms.  But they are not really in an open space where a little old lady is throwing seeds to them and they are nesting naturally.  Unless, you buy them from a woman who does let her chickens run wild and frankly that may be a problem if she is putting seven dust in her yard. LOL.

Good for you Jean.  We try to do our part to save our planet and it's creatures, but sometimes, well there's no way to be ecological.  George grows as much of our food as he can and doesn't use chemicals.  We use the grass clippings, veggie and fruit peels in the compost pile.  We recycle plastic bags and containers until they can't be used any longer.  We love the birds, and squirrels even though they are eating away at our figs and citrus crop.  BUT, I draw the line at bugs, those little boogers MUST go, except the good ones.  Down here we have ****roaches - EWWW.  I haven't seen one yet that I feel a need to save.

Enough jabbering, time to get back to work.
