LOL Cheryl,I have already warned her to lock her closets!!
I love beans too,I love everything she named.
You know what?? Once again I must mention the attitude of gratitude I feel from WLS.
I can enjoy all of these foods, I laugh at people who think we do not eat,but if they are serious,I give them the truth.
How lucky we are!

Quite true,I remember turkey necks too,mom would stew them down...ahhhh such flavor and good tender tasty meat!
Then the rich discovered our "ethnic" foods, which are atually southern, with some African and sucn thrown in.
When I visited Hawaii,I was shocked that they made ox tails...mmmm.
I thought I would fall on the floor the day I saw Martha Stewart cooking greens. In my next life,I caming back married to Paula
Now my dad had to have beans and rice every day no matter what,he was from the West Indies, but raised in the Carolinas.
Girl, that is just good old southern eating, poor folk eating has launched many great dishes, including the original pizza and french toast, from mothers taking age old bread and making something tasty. As far as poor folks food, the French have a saving,"live like a king, eat like a pauper"
You so have me craving some greens. We would eat cornbread and a "mess" of greens, that was dinner...mmmm.
Another walk down memory lane, food tied to our lives as much as food.
I have often said had a diet that was like the WLS,I would never have got so fat (barring the steroid part)!
In my next life, I am marrying Paula Deen!

Girl, I love Paula Dean and Emril.  I'm with him on putting a little lard in everything; although, I don't really put lard in my food.  My mother did use lard and one of my sisters still puts pure lard in everything and surprisingly, neither she nor her husband is over weight.

Yeah, foods always make me think of my mama.  She died wihen I was a child.  Even though I was a child, I cook like her and still make so many of her dishes.  One of my favorite dishes that she made was meatloaf and fried potatoes and cornbread.  She put cracklings in her corn bread and hot peppers.  I put hotpeppers in mine and cheddar cheese.  Ahh, the love of our mothers and their food.

Jeannie, the love comes through when you speak of your mom. My mom loved cooking, and I know she loved me the best she could.
However, your sister using lard and not getting fat,I have issues with!! LOL.
I guess it is just where you land in the gene pool.
I grew up with lard, and home made cracklings. There are many Latino countries who still eat that way.and they are not fat!! They romp and play, dance and laugh.
When I lived in NM,I ate a few things made with lard, including tortillas and they tasted darn good.
Thanks for the memories.
