My hair is falling out ..3 brush full each time I brush in AM..at this rate I'm going to be bald.  I've added some fat, and it has slowed down (I know too little fat can cause hair loss) and I'm getting 80gr a day of protein...any ideas???

My hair pretty much all fell out a few months after surgery and there was nothing I could do.  My doc said that there is really nothing to stop it.  I just shaved my hair off so that it would come back all the same length.  It is still thin on the top and when I get really malnourished, I start losing more hair.

Just cut it short and consider it one of those things that happen but considering all the weight that falls off too, not a bad trade off.

I use to say if I lost half my hair I would still have enough to style.  My hair was more like a pelt because it was so thick and heavy.  I've been blessed with good hair all my life.  I had oily skin and sweat easily so shampooing every day was a must.

Well, after surgery my hair began falling out very quickly.  I was watching it thin to almost nothing.  I was getting worried and was careful with my protein and vitamins.  It kept falling out...  then I was worried I was going to lose all my beautiful hair.  Vanity set in big time.

I've changed hair style and color trying to find a good solution.  Finally, it began growing in, all these fine wispy strands of hair.  After several more months my hair loss slowed down.  Now it is about normal.  The crown of my head is still thin compared to what it was before.

Ohhhh and a fun thing has happened.  I now have curl in my hair, never had curly hair before.  I'm wearing my hair a little longer and it is fun to have the curls....  not Shirley Temple curls but Millie curls...  lol

Hang in there the hair loss will end...

I've always had a little wavy hair and remember as a child having some curls, but when my new hair came in it came in with a really tight curl. I liked it at first, but now, I spritz it to get rid of some of the unmanageable curls.

I, too, had a pelt.  It dropped like flies.

My "crowning glory" as my grandma used to call it fell out and got really really thin. It was one of my only real good parts (the other being my chest parts) now both of my "really good parts" are not what they used to be. However, my hair did come back. My doc said I needed more iron and I don't know if it was timing, coincidence or the iron, but after I increased it my hair did start coming back, The boob-a-lettes not so much. They use to be my boob-a- lahs, but now they are just boob-a-lettes. My husband use to say "ah you are a buxom young lady" and he still does just to be nice.

It is a common known side effect of this surgery that occurs at about 3 months post-surgery and continues up to about 9 months to a year, after which, for most people the hair grows back and sometimes with a slightly different texture.  This occurred for me and many in my support group, my hair has grown back, get a nice new hairdo that will get you through this phase of things, you might even consider a stylish wig if it is really bad.  In the scheme of things, it's a small price to pay. . .  though if you are like me and love your hair, it kind of is yukky when you're going through it!

Many people use biotin, though it makes hair grow everywhere, there are expensive shampoos that help your hair look thicker, the one I used was Nioxin for thinning hair. . .

Losing hair is the worst side effect of this surgery. Most everyone is effected. It sounds like you are doing everything right. It usually stops falling out around the 8th month after surgery.

My hair has finally grown back in and now I had hip surgery. I have noticed some new hair loss again....UGH!!

Hijack. . .

Connie it's also a side effect of anesthia, anytime I've had surgery, 3 c-sections, 1 hysterectomy and WLS, it is a contributing factor, though surgically only, it did not last as long as when I had WLS. . .

Hope you are doing well and Nic and the rest of your family!

Hugs, Laureen

My hair is falling out by the hand fulls... but I didn't know adding fat would help... I'm taking Biotin, vitamins, and 60 gms protein a day.  Every time I've went to my surgeons... the NUT has asked me if my hair was falling out... I guess it's common... and it seems like everybody has experienced some or alot of hair loss... I went on a high protein/low carb diet years ago... and the same thing happened about 4 months out....  I'll take any suggestions!!! my beautician told me it would grow back.. and my weight-loss was more important..lol... I had my hair highlighted to give it more body... and she said that coloring wouldn't affect it falling out... that my hair was in good shape.. that they're too different problems.... Interesting isn't it????

Belle I haven't had a problem.  May be just a little more than normal.  Nobody in our bander support group has had a problem with hair loss.  I was told it was a RNY/DS issue.  I'm surpprised your having this problem.  Wonder if it is because your going such a great job losing fast??
