NSAIDS
ok i need some input from my OFF family.
my ortho doc wants to put me on a drug called Cataflam, to address
the swelling and tenderness in my ankle.
i know it is not adivsed for RNY patients to take these type of drugs
having said that, has anyone needed to use them since surgery?
this one, or any others. how did it work for you, did you have side
effects?
i have a call in to my RNY surgeon to see what he suggests before
i start the drugs
im very reluctant to take them, or any drugs for the matter.
they are sending me on to a foot and ankle specialist, sigh just what
i want, another doc.
anyway, thanks for any thoughts on this.
hugs to all, jacki

NSAIDS are dangerous to anyone. They damaged my gut long before WLS.
There have been a coupla times I wished I COULD tolerate them, foot surgery, broken arm, twisting my back...... I just cannot. It would only take 2-3 pills to cause me to bleed. I had to forfeit the balance of my stomach because of the old ulcers from the 80's.
see if you can use a topical. NSAIDS don't justy "touch" your stomach, but they are systemic so over use of even a cream could cause a problem. But careful use might be very helpful because you are putting it where you need it. My foot doc sold me Ibugel (yes, ibuprofen). It didn't help that much and of course, it IS systemic, so it could sneak up on me.
It was my podiatrist who offered several choices other than orals, so you might want to ask around.

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
Hi Jacki,
My surgeon says there aren't any drugs HE can take that I can not. BUT, after reading all I have about them and rny's, I am very, very cautious about taking them.
I have used them in the past, for a very short time, just until a condition improved. I have severe tendonitits in my elbow right now and really need to take them, but might resort to a cortisone injection instead.
I so sympathize with you and your foot issues and truly hope a specialist can help it get better. If I hadn't gone from a general orthopedist to a foot/ankle ortho, I don't know if I'd be walking today. I'm sure it will be a good thing in the long run (or walk..lol).
Take care!
