July 4th memories!
When I was five or six, my mom and her sisters, the aunts, and my grandparents all decided to spend the fourth together. There were more kids there than in my entire school. We met up at the lake and the women were busy making the food and setting the table and the older kids were busy watching us younger ones. There was this huge cliff and my brother swam over with me on his back and we climbed the cliff and were feeling so grand looking down at all the little people swimming. Then, I don't know why I did it because I sure couldn't swim, I just jumped off that cliff into the water below. I remember thinking, I think this is so much fun but then I kept going down after I hit the water. The best memory of that day was that while all my brothers and cousins were jumping in to save me, the boy who did save me was this gorgeous blong haired blue eyed god. Oh, even at my young age, I knew he was gorgeous. He swam with me in his arms, as best as he could, to the beach and one of my sisters took me from him. Later, he came over for burgers with our family and I sat and watched him with much adoration. I don't know what ever happened to my hero but I'm sure he either had a harem, cause he was that gorgeous, or was an actor, he so could have been. That was my best fourth of july.

You reminded me of a place we used to go call Lucia Falls. It had a clean, clear, COLD steam that came to a rocky place with a beautiful wide waterfall that emptied into another swimming hole. We used to go out in inner tubes and float about above the falls. My father went over once, but he was a good swimming and was fine but my mother freaked big time.
Thanks for the great story.

I hope yours and all that read this had a great holiday. I was reminded of my 4th of July celebrations as a child also...all of my family would get together and have a wonderful picnic, all the cousins running around playing. So much fun back then. Also, my Mom and I would go to the drive inn theatre to watch the fireworks, they also would have Elvis movies all night long! What a thrill for a young girl! I can remember my very first fireworks, I was scared to death! I thought they would fall on me! I wasn't very old at this time.
This year has been very different. I'm not as heavy and I can do the things that I used to watch others do! We are camping at an elevation of 10,000 ft up! Last year I would not have been able to breathe up here. I am so thankful and so very blessed to have found my way to RNY.
Lots of hugs to all,
Pat A
I am picturing the drive in theatre with fireworks...what a great place to see them! And, Elvis Presley movies....what a treat for a young girl.
I am having flashbacks of laying on my back and watching fireworks as a child. Don't know why they were not frightening......but more fascinating and I didn't want them to stop.
Enjoy the memories of your past...they are who you are!!

Maui Karen,
We are home!! Yeah, for fast internet, hahaha! No, you don't need oxygen at 10,000 feet. However, it is very difficult to get any exercise at all. We didn't get to ride our bikes or even just take a long walk! You can buy cannisters of oxygen to carry with you though. We didn't.
Today my allergies are killing me, i'm sure it's from the changes in altitude. We live at close to 6000 feet up. So we are very used to this. Very intelligent question though.
Thanks for this topic. Stay sweet.
Hugs,
Pat A

well lets start waaaay back when i was young....i remember going to a V.F.W. picnic on the 4th after the parade and then they had fireworks there or my cousin barb would take all us kids to the fireworks at the park. when i was older and had a place of my own...well we made our own fireworks...LOL ok seriously...we had a pool and had a cookout and had family over and then would walk down to the park for the fireworks. one year after the pool party and all went their own way i went over to moms and we rode bikes down the street to watch the fireworks. we oood and ahhhhhd over each and every one of them...its been several years since i last did that. last year after moving here to ohio we had gone to the fireworks and it was the first time in years that i sat and watched them live and had a great time!!! this year was the second time seeing the fireworks here and it was nice but not like last year...that was special!! but now everyday of my life is special to me because i finally have a love like never before....thanks for the trip down memory lane...
