Slow-mag???
According to most ND's, nobody gets enough. Period.
Labs will not show a low until waaaay too late. You have to go by feel with this one. Can't OD in mag of the citrate pill kind (not the bowel prep!), but you can be chained to the toilet with too much mag oxide! LOL
Mag oxide will not change your blood levels, nor will it help with any kind of cramping/spasms, etc. Never leaves the gut.
Mag citrate (and the other forms he mentions) go on into the blood stream where they can be carried around to do their jobs all over.

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
Too late ?? Holy Hanna Babera!! What does too late mean?? Why am I the one bringing this up when we have so many know it alls who know more than the doctor's and what tests they can run,how much blood they can take, etc.
Vitalady you rock! I wonder, with your wealth of information and your success, with your WLS,why you do not run a thread, you did tell me in one of your PM's that you travel a lot.
Anyway,thanks!

I was in Phx for a week! How'd you miss it? You're not hooked up with any of those groups? Sheesh. I spoke to 3 groups, hung out with some of the folks one-to-one.
Magnesium. Walk into the door of any naturopath (ND) and they'll tell you you are def. in Mag. Tell your MD you are taking oxide to poop, citrate for leg/foot cramps and they'll freak out. Mine did.
MD's are taught that all vites 'n minerals are toxicity about to happen. They don't get much teachin', period. So, fear. We CAN go toxic, eventually, but wow, for anyone with WLS, you'd go broke before you could reach toxicity.
If you take too much mag of any kind, you'd be tied to the toidy. But long before you are toidy-bound, your leg/foot cramps also have ended.
I added 1000mg mag. No change in labs. I added 1000mg more in mag citrate, still no change, for a year, even if it was going to change, a whole year? Nope, levels are exactly what they were before I began adding mag long ago. My ND nods and smiles. My PCP looks kinda panicky. LOL
I plan to hit phx next year, as they were all so receptive. and now, many are my babies. Saw them thru their first WLS, then thru the agony of WLS-failure, then thru their revisions and now, onto plastics.
