Necessity, the mother of invention

As I've mentioned I just moved to my new house.  The house really doesn't need much done, some minor cosmetics on the Lanai, repainting the front door, cleaning and staining the grout in the kitchen and family room.  I bought a new refrigerator and an over the range microwave to replace the older one that was in the house.  Matthew said he'd install it.  It's been 2 weeks and the microwave is still sitting on the floor.  Yesterday the old one came down........that's when we discovered the new one doesn't just slide in nice and easy as we thought/hoped.  We have to change the wall mounting brackets, etc.

Don't worry I'm getting to the part about Necessity being the mother of invention..........

We were out running around all afternoon today and got back kind of late..........I wasn't hungry at all since we stopped for a late lunch (had some yummy salmon and veggies).  I thought some fruit would be plenty for me.  Matthew thought he'd be hungry after doing some pool cleaning so I offered him a piece of the left over lasagna that I had cut and frozen in nice little individual servings......he thought that sounded good.

I went to the freezer, took out the biggest piece of lasagna I could find and went to "nuke" it....YEP, both microwaves are sitting on the floor in the middle of the room.

Soooooo I put on my thinking cap and thought, what would grandma do??  FYI- grandma never owned a microwave......she thought they were "unsafe/unhealthy".  So I got the double boiler out, wrapped the lasagna in tinfoil, and heated up the lasagna......after about 35-40 mins it was finally close to ready......

Matthew came inside and said......."I'm not hungry", let's just have some fruit.  LOL

As I was getting the double boiler set up I thought to myself........gee I wonder if my nieces would even be able to do this.  They've never known the world without a microwave in the kitchen.,,,..when I was a kid there were no microwaves in houses.  It kind of made me start thinking of just how different the world is now........

Thanks for letting me blab on and share my silly story......

not a silly story at all---think about folks who have water pumped- maybe by a well- when the electricity goes out there is no pump--hmmmmm!!! kids do not know how to do alot of what we do---good luck with the micro!!!!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

I see this in my niece and her daughter...among others. They just don't know what to do without the inventions of today. I don't think that they would have survived with the things that we didn't have...let alone the things that our parents and grandparents didn't have. If something happens now to the "necessities" of today they go nuts. It really is a shame...I like doing things the "old" way better in a lot of things. When I reheat things a lot of the times I heat them up in the oven because I hate the way the microwave does it. I guess I am just a old fashion kind of girl is some things.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

I don't think my daughter would even consider using the stove to heat up leftovers.  I do use the oven a lot because I don't keep my microwave plugged in and so a lot of the time, I just throw something in the oven and wait it out.  She reminds me how fast the microwave is and when she's here, it stays plugged in.  LOL.  My grandson will say, Nana, make the popcorn in the pot.  Yeah.  Poor babies are just too spoiled.
