I also have bad knees, a wonky hip and back problems, so walking for any distance is still hard for me. One thing that got me going was resistance bands. DH ordered mine from the TV but you can get them at most sporting goods stores. I could do the exercises from my chair and I got a full workout! I still use them daily, even though I'm now able to walk for 30min or so at a time.

Debbiejean had a good idea with getting on the floor and doing those exercises but if you're like me, IF I could get on the floor I'd never get up! So I so those type exercises on my bed. The hardest part is keeping my doggie friend Sophie Grace from 'helping' me too much!

There ARE so many movements you can do now that can work in your favor. ANYTHING is better than nothing....any start for just a few minutes is success!

Do you have access to a pool (local YMCA, Community Rec Center, etc.)?  I found it difficult to get moving and start exercising after my surgery until I tried aqua aerobics. Or as a starter you can just walk in the water. And I believe the Arthritis Foundation has some aquatic exercise programs as well. It is so nice to get in the water and be able to move and bend without aches and pains!

Hey thanks for all of the ideas and encouragement! I do really appreciate it! To let you all know I do things like walk around the apartment and other places but can't do much for long. The other day I was helping my cousins and my husband, they were putting up a pool and my left leg didn't work right. I didn't realize it and hung my toe on the liner that I had previously laid down there and feel on my face. I wasn't hurting to bad at the time but had a big bruise on my knee and leg just below the knee on my right leg. Now I think I have a blood clot in the bruise. It could only happen to me the klutz! So the moving around alot is on hold. But I am planning on going to my cousins and we are going to go pick some blueberries. So I do move around and put up with the pain. I just want to figure out a way to keep the pounds off and continue to loose weight. Also if any of you have restless legs syndrome you know you don't sit still long. I have a really bad case of it and am trying to change my meds for that.
So with all of the encourgement and ideas I am going to get this weight again falling off! Got to go take those RLS meds the legs are jerky! Thanks! Michelle

I, too, have spinal stenois, sciatica, and arthritis in my back.  i love to walk, my doctor gave me pain patches and I cut one in half and put one side on each cheek.  This works most of the time.
Good Luck

Just wanted you all to know that I went for a walk with my husband this evening. The place we went had a nice bench about half way around the path. I made it around the path without any problem so I am going to start going early in the morning when I feel up to it. I am starting tomorrow. Wish me luck! I need luck because I am going to take my dog! She is a handful. A Siberian Husky that has way to much energy especially since being cooped up here in the apartment. Thanks again! Michelle
