I have never been sensitive to sugar or much of anything except maybe greasy foods. but something is happening and i dont know what ...
I made a protein smoothy about a week ago  , made the same way as i always make them, and about half hour after i drank it i started sweating and got really dizzy, was shaking and was so weak i couldnt stand up.... didnt get sick at my stomach  or anything but when i cooled down and quit sweating  i got real sleepy and went to sleep for about an hour.  and felt better except that i have slept a lot since then.....today i made another smoothy , everything the same again  and again the same reaction.  Am i dumping after all this time> have i gotten sensative to sugar or something ....i have thought of something tho that is different with the smoothys i changed protein powder,...i will have to look when i go get another container of it.  I changed from ON  to the wal mart brand of protein powder.  thought i would come here and ask you all since there is some older wls paitients here , Help.....

 Jan,

The symptoms you describe are like mine when I have low blood sugar.  I would suggest you talk with the DR.  Maybe have your blood sugars checked.

When I have too much sugar ... even good sugars from fruit ....  my blood sugars rise then the pancreas secretes insulin  then my blood sugars plummet.  I get sweaty, dizzy, sleepy and weak.  I can't think straight and become disoriented.

I HAVE to have protein with each meal, even the mini meals and snacks.  I do better with natural proteins rather than the powders.....

I do know that blood sugar levels will change as we age.  Best check with the Dr....

Jan,that sounds like a dump, too much sugar. We definitely can change ,every few years,we may develop allergies we never had, etc.
I hope your doctor can help, and that you stay away from that stuff, until they define the problem.

I had the same thing.  Sweating, sleeping.  I tracked it back to watermellon, wine and a protein bar all in a 1.5  hour period.  Way to many sugars. I spiked and paid a price for it.
I'am careful about fruits, alcohol, and alcohol sugars.  Some combinations dont work anymore.  This dump made a believer out of me.  Very careful with new foods.  If my pouch talks back to me I stop right then and there.

I do that every single time I drink a protein shake.  I get so sick that when I drink them, I know that I'm going to have to go to bed.  I had attributed it to the milk or soy milk, which ever one I used; however, I mix the unjury with water and still do it.

Jan....I  wouldn't use that protein powder again.  Too much sugar somewhere along the way.

I am one that can't handle protein shakes either. I can use Boost Glucose Control High Protein Drinks but that is it.My blood sugar take a dive from the other kind of mixable protein shakes.

Yes our bodies are constantly changing. There are  several things I can't eat anymore.I do however try to get my protein from the foods I eat.

Hope you get some answers soon!!

awww the magic number 3. Everytime I went thru a new change, or something different happening I would sit and count out the time, there was always the magic 3. 3 months, hair loss starts, 9 months it seems to start to slow down, every 3 months for the first 18 months I would experience something new. at 18 months I started losing pounds again, and reached my 100 pound mark.

3 years, this is what i tell people early on when they are saying how good things are and such, I say wait until year 3, that's when it all starts up again, but in a different way, this is when you have to fight tooth and nail to keep whatever pounds you have lost gone. You fight for every pound you lose, labs bottom out, hair does it's thing again, all new stuff again.

As far as dumping goes, I have always dumped, I never know from one day to the next what I can eat, I may be able to eat something today but tomorrow is a different story. Can't get that thru my mothers head. I tell her to eat the left overs for her lunch, cause I can't do left overs. Her comments are always something like "you weren't raised like that." Well I tell her, I wasn't born with a RNY either. Now my youngest daughter had wls and can eat anything and has gained a lot back, so mom says, well your daughter can eat it.....she just doesn't get it, that we are all different....

Anyway, watch for new changes in year 3.....

What did you eat abut 1-2 hours before that?

How do you make your smoothie? It would be dumping, but kinda late. Hypoglycemia hits more suddenly and violently.

It's possible it's dumping, because of the sleepiness.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

had nothing before the smoothie for about 4 hours.  how would you have hypoglycemia from drinking a smoothy? it was about 30 -45 minutes after drinking the smoothie? would it have had time to cause that big of spike and then that low of a drop?  i am going to see my pcp friday and will see what she says . i used to before surgery would have drops but not this bad when i ate too much sugar. ..
