Back to square one!
Hi All!
Am moving to Phoenix area in a few weeks and know I need to get back to a support group. My support group is open only to people who had that surgeon, as do those in the part of Phoenix where I will live. Am hoping you all will be a great support group instead. I've regained 30 lbs in the past 2 years, I get so disgusted with myself, but know that the weight is grief and stress weight. I need your help to get myself in gear once more. I sat with my mom for 3 months and got no exercise as I couldn't leave her side; she died after we thought we had her up and running again, dad is now my responsibility in a nursing home with Alzheimer's, my siblings have finally stopped calling to tell me about their grief and give me some room...then my mom's only family, her sister, died suddenly and as the oldest cousin her 2 kids needed me to help them with funeral, etc. I'm totally exhausted! So do I get back on my bike and ride or go swimming? Nope, I had bilateral knee surgery last week. Am frustrated and feeling a bit beaten down by all of this. I really want to get back into my tiny shorts and skorts outfits. Any help?
Blessings to all,
Daffodil

Again Good Luck on the MOVE! Michelle
P.S. my friend is over weight so she would not be judgemental.
Hi Daffodil, Are you brand new to OH? It looks like you just joined, yet you had surgery 5 years ago. In any case, Welcome to OFF! This is a great group for support & friends.
I certainly know how difficult it is to get exercise when you spend so much time with parents who are ill. Add stress eating & it's a recipe for trouble. I am in much the same boat, spending a great deal of my time with my Mom who is 91 years old. I have to slow down everything when I'm with her as she thinks & moves so slowly now.
That being said, I really feel better if I take just 30 minutes for exercise before I go to see her. Think of it this way --- you have to take care of yourself so that you will be able to continue to care for your loved ones.
I don't really know what bilateral knee surgery is, but I'm guessing you are recuperating for at least 6 weeks before exercise, right?
Phoenix is beautiful!!! I lived for 6 years in Scottsdale / Mesa area & loved it, although I must say the hot summers were sooooooo long!

Hi Margo-
Moving, Couldn't get profile to change email address. Starting all over again. My life has been in total chaos for the past 18 months. Membership implies at least tuning in. Original membership 11-2003, 3 months before surgery. Sign in has undergone a series of changes: Rusty Daffodil, Rusty, Rusty 2 and now Daffodil Rusty. New name, new email, new beginning.
Feeling particularly stupid. And so I am,
Daffy

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Glad to see your post this morning.
Taking time for ourselves is very hard when others are so dependent on us. But if we do not take care of ourselves, we cannot care for others.
Have you ever tried water aerobics? Not sure how soon after surgery you could do that, but it might be something to think about in the future.
Take care.
