Karen,

I think your depressed friend needs to see a psychiatrist.  I love my PCP, but he knows very little about psychopharmacology.  After 3 months of misery, your friend either needs a different medication or an added medication (PCP's may not think to combine psych drugs, especially if they're made by different manufacturers whose drugs reps aren't mentioning combination therapy).  I've been seeing ads lately about a drug called Abilify which can apparently "boost" the effect of antidepressants and other psych meds.

Dearest Karen, thank you so much for stepping up to the plate regarding Brenda. It really makes me angry when people receive poor treatment from doctors. She has not even seen her doctor,I don't get it. The last time Brenda went to his office, she said she was going to be adamant about her lack of care. Once again, she was not treated well at all. The damn doctor is billing his hours as if he saw her I bet.
Brenda is too nice,so nice that she may be a detriment to herself,as your friend seems to be also. She has asked me to remind her when she is being that way. I do.
When I see my doctor, whom I adore,I still ask for a copy of her notes she has written while I was with her. I also have my own notes when I come. If we discussed something and she has made a decision, and I do not see it on her notes,I make a dated notation that we discussed this in my book.and I simply ask her to initial it. She can at that time either add it to her notes, which she has done, only twice in 3 and a half years,or sign my book, which she has never had to do.
I feel so deeply,I told Brenda weeks ago that she could make me her health advocate, and I would speak to her doctors office. I have done this in the past to help people in our community who were turned down for WLS. We simply conference me in after the person states the position I am acting in,and we all 3 stay on the phone,it is being recorded so all is safe and legal. When doctors have refused to give people a letter of medical necessity (do to their personal feelings about WLS),I tell the person to ask the doctor to document the refusal, and acknowledge the diseases they are being treated for. They fold like paper dolls! I am sure it helps that I have worked for health insurance companies.I have also been licensed to sell insurance.
I am sorry to speak so strongly, but I simply hate to see this.
I have been a warrior all my life. Some crap shots by me,like the lab tech taking so much blood when I was not looking do to a aversion to needles. You can bet my doctor will hear about having so many tests at once. She did compile the 2 requests from other doctors with hers. I believe she should have been more conscientious.
Take care,I am going to call Brenda.

Aloha my very favorite warrior woman!! You are someone I would want on my team if I were being abused in any way!! You are I are similar in that we HATE mistreatment....and I wish I were as proactive as you are. Here are two instances of medical malpractice (IMHO) being done to people we love!! I know docs have a lot on their plates, and I give them a lot of respect for that, but when you have a person you have known for years that is NOT improving........stop, look, listen......change according to the facts presented.

As always....I am so thankful for this place were we can air our lives and maybe help one another in some way.

Oh, how I would love to give you a hug!!

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Dearest Karen, you give support anywhere you see a need. You should be proud of yourself.
My job tried to shuffle me off due to time spent out over the last  six and a half years.
During one time of returning to work about a year ago,I was asked by my supervisor to sign out,and she accompanied me to the HR office. I was told by this person if I stayed out to the point of needing short term disability again,(Our sick leave is managed through a insurance company,Met Life),I would be terminated. I was given a letter which I had to sign, and I was given a copy before I signed it,I did have to ask for the copy...smile.
So,unless I had worked enough hours to be covered by the Federal Medical Leave Act, (FMLA),I could lose my job. I worked the required time to attain this status again,1250 hours.
I had no idea that I was going to become all but crippled, and have many secondary diseases that would deplete me of my allot ed time off.
Long story short, per the company handbook, because my time off had not been consecutive,I could be put on medically certified leave. Some people do not realize that an employee handbook is a legal document. Any changes in policy has to be issued to all employees. Because I do not have FMLA,my position in the company was not protected BUT,I am still an employee,as long a there is medical proof of illness, ongoing and updated through my doctor to Met life.
I can be out up to 2 years consecutively before being automatically terminated, per their policy.
I am very grateful for this. I am grateful to be able to comprehend and not be intimidated by them.
Granted I do not have a lot of money,I receive only 65 percent of my pay,but I have the chance to get better.
Bren's doctor may very well be busy, however,if he is too busy to address his patients needs, how can he be doing his job? He has not seen her, examined her in 3 months?? How ridiculous can it get??
Please try and talk to your friend, she needs you so.
Take care,sweet one.

Something to think about:  Not everyone can graduate at the top of the class. There has to be someone at the end of the line!

The fortunate ones find the doctors at the beginning of the line, and it stinks if yours is pulling up the rear.

Brenda,I am so sorry your food is hurting you. I assume you eat before you take the antibiotic. How much longer do you have on it? If it is a substantial amount of time, have you thought about calling your doctor and having it switched out? You should not have to suffer like that!
Please call your doctors office.
Hugs and prayers for you...

Brenda, is your wound healing any at all.  I mean, when I had my hysterectomy and my incision opened up, hubby was packing it every morning and every evening and almost on a daily basis we could see the decrease in the amount of packing that we needed to put in.  In the beginning, we were putting an entire kerlex in but over a week or two, the wound healed from the inside out and every day the amount of packing dwindled.  If you are not healing at all, it's time to insist that they figure out why. And,like Karen said, if the drainage that is coming out is smelly, and the antibiotic is not working, you must be proactive in making the doctor fix the problem.  Ask him if he can send you to an wound management clinic.

Jeannie, it seems to be healing slowly..but it is healing. I get it packed every day and yes, the packing that is going in is getting smaller. I have another few days with the antibiotic (the 4th time around) and then they are getting another culture. According to what the culture comes back I am going to get a referral to a Infection Control Doctor. Even if I go one time I will have a history with them for it this happens again. I am not having the pain that I did before so that is a good thing. The stuff draining is still green and the nurse did smell a bit yesterday but that is the first time that happened in a long time.

Thanks so much for the concern...I really appreciate it.

Yep, the weekend was too short here too.  Did manage some heavy cleaning, tree pruning, watering.  Stayed busy and ate well.  Yesterday was the first of a series of six Sunday afternoon Blues In the Park, free concerts sponsored by the Monterey Blues Festival.  I got my dance therapy in and then a birthday BBQ.  Had a little vodka with crystal lite and a 1/2 piece of birthday cake.  But all in all it was a successful weekend.

B coffee/Kashi/yogurt
L leftover chicken
s grapes & cherries
D leftover ribs/homegrown green beans

And away we go into another busy week with more deadlines. I'm supposed to hear something about the retirement issue on Wednesday.
Keep smiling, Linda
