Hi Karen,

A good friend recently had this problem with sleep and tried a Whole Foods product. The name of it had Sleep as one of the words and it has Valerian in it. It worked for her and she took only one at a time instead of the recommended two.

I am on a couple of antianxiety pills. The clonoazepam is the one I take 1 mgm of at night and I sleep well.

Hope you find something that works.

Karen,
Have you ever considered having your Estrogen levels checked by your Dr. to make sure it isn't a hormonal thing. Magnesium seems to help before bedtime too.

I read. Being a night owl I just don't get sleepy until 1-2am. I'll read until I fall asleep, that's anywhere from 30min to over an hour. I also do the potty break calls but if my brain still won't turn off I read some more. It's like if my brain is allowed to start working on it's own it just bounces from one thing to another and never getting anything accomplished! After the 5-6am potty break I'll sleep until 10am so that's a decent 6-7 hrs sleep at night.

Aloha Deedles ( I LOVE THAT name!!)

If only our brains had an on/off switch, eh? I, too, find myself beginning to think too much after potty breaks at night, and then I know I'm in trouble. I have never slept past 6:30.....can't even imagine sleeping til 10:00 a.m.!! You are very lucky.

When I was in the early stages of my WLS, I could not sleep to save my life!  I think I must have been one of those babies who was put to bed with a bottle and could only sleep on a full tummy.  To this day, if I'm hungry at night, I can't sleep.

SInce I've lost weight, I sleep a little better but never through the night.  Typically, I fall asleep easily and then wake up after a few hours and then I'm wired up.  I end up going to my computer and working for a few hours before attempting to return to bed.  My doctor doesn't seem to think it's a problem because I function fine at work and home.  It's a big annoyance but I'm not sure I want to start on drugs.  Sometimes when I really need to sleep I take a benadryl and it works okay.

Aloha!

Funny how different we are about sleep, isn't it. Somewhere along the line I learned that food eaten after 7:00 turns to FAT because when the body is supposed to be "repairing" itself it is digesting food instead. But, the fact that food is comfort to many of us sure makes it understandable that you associated that with a good night's sleep.

Thanks.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen
