OT: treatment of sciactic pain?
My surgeon gave me Celebrex for my sciatica, I don't take it all the time, I usually just put up with the pain. I took one capsule Saturday morning as I couldn't walk or stand up straight. I took a few hours nap and when I woke up the pain was gone. This flare up has been going on for months and that one capsule took care of the pain.

My surgeon allows Nsaids and I've taken them for almost 7 yrs, or since about 6 months after surgery. I do alot of strenuous exercising and with inflammation I have to have Advil. Tylenol does nothing and with our elevated liver numbers anyway, some say Tylenol should be avoided or at least used sparingly. My doc has a few rules for Advil use, I've done them and have never had a problem. Never on an empty stomach - crackers, yogurt, milk, after a meal, etc. and it should be fine. With the new liquid-gel form of Advil and others, many bariatric docs are rethinking their position of NO Nsaids. The liquid gets the medicine into our system faster, without sitting along the pouch wall where the old form could cause problems. My doc allows nsaid use for short periods of time - injury, menstrual pain, tooth ache, short term stuff. He's been doing weight loss surgery for 30 yrs and had always advised patients to be careful but by following the guidelines nsaid use can work for us. Many have chronic pain issues that need an Advil or Motrin dosage on a regular basis. If you don't overdo it , there isn't usually a problem. If you have stomach issues, ulcers or any thing else that nsaid use could make worse then you're better off not using them. Check with your doc and see if occasional use on a full stomach will allow you to get some relief from your back pain.
