This is it.  The end of the work week.  Have a great weekend everyone.  What do you have planned?

This morning I did my daily Bible reading and one of the verses was Proverbs 19:16.  It is so fitting for those of us that have had WLS.

16 Keep the rules and keep your life;

   careless living kills.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

Good morning All!
The packing maniac I'm living with will wrap me in bubble wrap if I hold still for a few minutes!  I have to stay alert cuz he wants to throw everything out!  Every 5 minutes I hear "Do I have to move this too?  Can't we just get rid of it?"  My DH is a changed man.  I'm glad he's up to packing so we can move next week, but goodness!  Our schnauzer sits with me and watches.  She doesn't care at all for my walker but she'd rather snuggle with me than get trampled by the parade of boxes and male members of the family.  I'm sure she's afraid she'll be left behind and I'll be packed off as well.  Anyway, it's the same packing insanity for the next several days.  Hope all is well for y'all.

Aloha dear Margo....Have you contacted any of the shipping lines for getting your car and household items here? When I was living in Oregon, I remember doing a lot of research that, and then a crew came to my house and boxed and took away my items to be moved to Maui. In my case I was moving into a fully furnished condo and leaving a 4 bedroom, 3 bath home which I'd sold to my son so that made it easy to leave so much there. Seems to me that the shipping for the boxes of stuff I "just had to have" was around $3000.

Actually shipping my van was a bargain....I thought. On the day I was moving to Maui (ONE WEEK after 9/11 and the airlines had just reopened), I drove it from Portland to Seattle, and it was put on a ship to come to Maui (4 weeks later....I had to rent a car for that 4 weeks.) That trans-Pacific shipping of my van cost $800.....I thought that was a bargain when I considered having to buy something here!

I know you must be doing all of that kind of research as you get nearer to moving to Hawaii. I hope you find someone cheaper than I did for the household items.

How are you going about finding a place to live??

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

karen-the quote from both matson and pasha for the car is $1072...i cannot afford to sell the car (owe too much on it cuz of my trade in) so i have to ship it..it will go out of hayward or san diego ...will have to rent til it gets there- bummer....

we have gotten a quote for door to door for a 20ft container-yikes!!! 7k+ --so we are looking at basically taking almost nothing and shipping a 16 ft enclosed trailer  along with the car- don't have a quote on that yet-- the trailer would mean we ship out of san diego --if only the car we can go out of oakland or hayward....

i keep looking at what i think i have to have and thinking about shipping and well- it is not easy--we can mail dvd's /cd's and books media mail to general delivery and also mail parcel post -cheaper than a container!!!!

we're checking rentals from naalehu to honokaa and anywhere in between!!! of course what is available now vs in october could be waaay diff-but we are finding much furnished or at least partially furnished within our budget--so far---as for where we actually intend to "stay" longer term--my future employment will determine that logistically.....

there is just sooooo very much to consider-and we just keep creeping along with it!!!
mahalo!

Miss M turns four today. Tonight we are having the family party. Tomorrow there is a party for 30 (om my goodness) kids, their parents and siblings.

The GI doctor called and moved my appointment to 1 pm today. The surgeon has scheduled a test of the small bowel early Monday morning. Drinking barium sounds yucky, but that's okay.

I took the M&M's out on the town. We rode in an outside glass elevator which they thought was thrilling. We walked down a two story spiral staircase also. They spied a basket of rubber snakes and each made their selections. Darned things looked real and they delighted in the shocked reaction of people. It was hot so we went to the park to run through the sprinklers. Miss M can't quite understand why grandma won't let her run naked. They have kept me occupied, tired and covered with kisses.

Thank you all for your care and support. I try to answer each person individually but sometimes run out of steam.

Kisses
