How did you survive the wait?

Hi everyone,
I have been waiting for insurance approval for almost a month. The 30 days they have to reply is up next Wednesday. Most days I feel like I am coming out of my skin with anticipation and wondering what the answer will be. I need this surgery so much. I need my health back and a second chance at a quality life. Did anyone feel like if they didn't get the surgery soon, it might be too late? Or am I just being dramatic?
I love your "what's eating you, and what are you eating" thread every day. It helps to see how normally you all eat, even though I realize that your portions must be much smaller. You all look so great!
Just needed to freak out for a minute.
Thanks,
Penny

penny-welcome a-board

waiting is probly the worst part to me!!!!!!!! waiting for approval-i had to appeal twice- and waiting for "a date" and then waiting for surgery....

you are going thru normal feelings and you will get thru this!!!!!!!!!!!!

stick around-post on our what's new thread so we can all get to know you too!!!!!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Thank you for your reply. I was on here a few weeks ago and have been reading all along, but I feel like I have very little to contribute because I haven't had my surgery yet. I get so much information just reading your messages to each other. It helps to know what is ahead of me.

Hi Penny,

I just started the waiting game.  All of my consults and weight loss classes are complete.  Surgeon's office called on July 14th and said they were submitting my information for approval.  I also can't wait until this is all behind me.  I'm feeling like a fat slug at this point and looking forward to getting on with things and on my way to becoming healthier and slimmer.  Good luck.  I hope you hear something real soon.

Penny,
Waiting was the hardest part of weight loss surgery. The second hardest part was keep a supply of clothes which didn't fall to my ankles at the slightest move.

Near the top of that difficult list was to learn patience - not so good with that one yet.

Freak out as often as needed. We all understand.

Thank you all very much for your encouragement. I have called twic e and I hope I don't make them angry if I bother them too much. It is always comforting to know I am not the only one waiting. You would think at age 56 I would be more patient, but not so much!
Thank you all again for being so kind.

It's sooooo difficult to wait for that approval.  You reach a place where everything just kinda stops, and time stands still.  The only thing I can suggest is call and follow up with your insurance company to see where they are in the process.  It keeps you in the loop and is reassuring to know exactly where you are in the scheme of things.

I had reached a "point of no return."  I lived in my recliner for a couple years, too big, and too sick to do anything.  The inevitable was an early death if intervention did not occur.  I thought about all the reasons I have to live, and took myself off to the doc's to start the process for bariatric surgery.  Probably the best decision I ever made, if you don't count being married to DH for 44 years, and having my children.  Blessings to you.

Hi Penny!

I know how you feel.  My insurance had 30 days to make a determination and they took the whole time.  Drove me nuts.
