Hi There Its Friday and all is well......Friday Thread
Jan
Carla, I know what you mean about the advantages of renting. We rent our house up here, but we own down in the valley. So, when things break here, we call the landlord and he sends someone out, but when things break at home, we have to do the paying out. After spending the last couple of weeks travelling, I'm glad to be home; however, hubby and I are heading out next weekend, we think, to visit my friend and do some much needed rest. I have an appointment at my surgeon's office, so we will spend the night at her house so that we only have to drive an hour to the doctor as opposed to six hours one way. After summer school, I'm headed back up to Kansas to see my son and his family. Then, I'll be stationary for a while.
Today, I am doing the same old thing. Students are doing presentations so I get a little reprieve from teaching. It's always good to let them do a couple of presentations a semester for their own experience of talking in front of people but I learn from their research. That's what I like about this job. Every paper is different with a different topic and I learn so much. Like, space debris. Who knew that the space debris was causing so much damage to our atmosphere.
Okay, no walking no riding no nothing. Today, I am resting and letting my body rest from all the exercise. I am having my writer's group meeting. Everyone in our group is published either through writing journals, academic journals, or by writing novels. I'm the only one who hasn't published a novel; although, I've written chapters in academic books that are published. We are still celebrating our friend whose book is getting published through a branch of simon and schuster. Yeah. She got her advance for the first of the triology, not bad. I told her she owed me for my editing skills--only joking.
Well, I hope you all have a good day. I'm going to get some much needed reading done. I cannot wait for this day to end and my weekend to begin. You would think that I planned to sleep in or something, not so. I just like not having to get dressed in real clothes. I prefer sitting around in my sweats or pajamas and keeping only socks on my feet. Yeah, that would be my perfect day.

one of the things i adore about hawaii is wearing slippas (zorries or flip flops) all of the time (except maybe to work!)
I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Yep on the comfort clothes. When I teach, I have to dress up in clothes and wear shoes that reflect something other than toes. LOL. Well, I can wear sandles but no flips. As soon as I walk in the door, I mean without even getting to the bedroom, the clothes start coming off. I hate itchy clothes.
We have hardwood floors and I have bone spurs in my feet so I cannot do barefoot but thick socks give me enough padding to keep the feet from feeling like I'm walking on rocks. But, I love having my shoes and socks off.

When I was at work Wednesday at Imua I was watching what people wore....and would you believe shorts, tank tops and slippers were the norm. So different from the mainland!! I LOVE IT!

oh my- i dunno why-it hasn't been a hard week it really hasn't been a long week i am just so glad that it is friday!!!!!
roxie got her microchip and the blood draw-there was some confusion at the vets but it got cleared up--they tried to tell me she had to wait 4 weeks for the draw after the chip was implanted- seems that to go to japan it is the rule--since we are going to hawaii the rule is different! but we got it all cleared up and i am also getting a duplicate rabies certificate from the vet who gave her the first shot so we will be all cool- they have to black out the previous owner's name- of course! but i'll have the paper!! i spoke with that dr for a few minutes- he was very helpful! but very far away from us! -a fax or copy of the info is not sufficient-must be a signed certificate! she was such a whiner the whole time we were at our vets but everyone loved her -- she goes back in 3 weeks for some shots and will be up to speed very soon! her quarantine will start next week.
while at the vet there was a beautiful old dog-dunno the breed but she was definitely showing her 15 years of age and she was waaaayy overweight- they weighed her and she was 100#---not a breed who should weigh that- vet was getting some med to quell her appetite-poor dear could hardly walk...i wanted to cry or shake the owner...
boss came into work yesterday and looks good in spite of everything with his daughter-she seems to be rallying . prayers are still requested!
a big duelly pickup truck stopped and took a brochure last nite about the house-drove around the block and came back and sat out front for a minute or two--hopefully something will come from this???? can we say we are eager to sell????
about 8pm; i went in our room and laid down with the dogs to watch "touched by an angel" and promptly fell asleep...hmmmmmmm
so-work today and cleaning and packing this weekend....
hugs and prayers....................
edit: evidently the guy with the truck is a cousin of a neighbor (the neighbor's mother lives down the street as well) and they spent an hour and a half here last nite with michael --looking at the property and he showed him the basement but not the upstairs-and i slept thru the whole thing! he is very interested in seeing the inside...so i am praying here!!!!
I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Thanks for all the good wishes regarding the departure of Henrietta. Annette was the first one I called, even before work and my DS/DIL. You all are such a source of comfort and friendship, and I want you to know how much I appreciate you.
Surgery went well, and as I promised I was home by lunch time. The surgery center was great, very friendly, kind and professional. Turns out the Nurse Anesthetist on my case is one of my Support Group members. Boy did she take good care of me. In recovery she displayed her new flat belly and lifted boobies to me. Gary got to see the tummy part, not the boobies.....he was sad....LOL. Anyway, her PS did an amazing, amazing job. Of course that now has me rethinking plastics. Stupid, Susan
"Stupid Susan" got on the scale this morning, knowing I would have gained some from fluid retention. Gained 7 pounds!!!

We finally got a good night's sleep after deciding to leave Sherlock out in the living room over night. I heard him go outside around 3:15 (when he would have gotten us up) and that was all I heard of him until 5:30 when he started whining at the door. We'll see if he goes for it again tonight, and if he does we'll be much happier campers and much better rested.
Okay, off to mix up another latte, then make some breakfast for Dear Gary. He's such a trooper!
