OT: Back To The Real World

I left July 8th for vacation and just returned Friday.  Of course we had a great time.

I taught a clothing class in a small town in North Central WA... Republic.  The area is very mountainous and beautiful.  I stayed with one of the ladies who lives on a mountain that has a 180* panoramic view of the area...  OMG  the mountains were spectacular.  I woke up the next morning to the daily migration of a Llama herd.  Her neighbor has about 60 of them.  What a treat

These gals are far from mountain mommas.  I was amazed how many of them were raised in the city and retired in the mountains.  Their quilting skills are remarkable.  I think I learned more from them than I taught.

I spent a few days in Spokane visiting with my sister, niece and cousin.  My cousin and I were reunited a few years ago.  We played together as kids but through family cir****tances we lost track of each other.  We are doing a family genealogy on my father's side ( her mother).  Very interesting too.  My maiden name is Doolittle and my grandfather is a cousin of Jimmy Doolittle.  She has pictures and documents.  Plus, my grandmother's brother was the XO of Pearl Harbor when it was bombed.  This has really been interesting to see my family genealogy.

After my time in Spokane we went camping.  My sister was too ill to go with us so her husband brought the camper to a small mountain lake.  It was so peaceful and the air was so clean and clear.  I would love to stay up there but reality sets in.  We were going to stay longer, then it rained and mom was "bait" for mosquito's and other hungry bugs.  When we got to town we heard the fire warnings, there were forest fires in the area.  It's a shame to see all the area burned.  We heard thunder as we packed up to go so we know that lightening struck but it was not too close to where we were.

One of my big treats while in Spokane was to have coffee with Cheryl... Ceeidee..  ( I think that is  correct.)  What a "pixie"  she is so tiny and cute.  Has a great personality too.  We had a great chat at Starbucks.  I look forward to meeting with her again.  I'm hoping to get together with KarenC sometime soon too.  She is close by but my schedule is not free for me to get together. Now I've met two of our wsl "buddies".    I live in the same town as Vitalady and should make arrangements to visit her for coffee too.  It would be fun to get together for a WA gathering.

OK   OK   I chattered enough....   Millie

Millie!

Hi there! You are home, huh?

You missed where I got to brag about seeing you!
It was really fun getting to visit with you. I do hope we get to again.

I just read your post and see that your  grandfather is a cousin of Jimmy Doolittle. My husband had a co-worker who's sister wrote a book about their grandfather, Jimmy Doolittle, she signed it and he gave it to my husband. Jonna is the author. Pete Doolittle is my husband's former co-worker, who he in fact, just had coffee with yesterday. Would he be a cousin of yours? Do you know Pete and Jonna? Small world huh?

Well, glad you made it home, you and your mom, safe and sound.

Cheryl

Hmmmmm   very interesting.  I'll have to ask my cousin if she knows Pete & Jonna...   I really don't  have much of the information on that side of the family.    The book I have is " I Could Never Be So Lucky Again"  by Carroll V. Glines  It is an autobiography by Jimmy.

I do know my father told me there are quite a few "Doolittles" in California and Arizona plus I have heard also that there is a granddaughter of Jimmy's in Spokane but a name was not given to me.

Very interesting ... .small world.

I did check the past posts too....  I did see you had bragging rights .... lol  it was fun meeting and I look forward to meeting Karen too.

Millie, I am so glad that you had such a wonderful time.

I know that it is so much fun meeting out fellow OFFer's. I have met several of them and I love it. They are so much like my real family that I know why we call each other brother and sister. There is such a bond between us that no one could understand it if they hadn't experienced it themselves. I hear my self referring to so and so as my girlfriend in ____ or my friend in____
and I know that some wonder why I have so many friends all over the place. My family probably wonders where I find them at. ha ha  Little do they know that I am closer to this family than I am to my blood relatives.

Please never think that you can't go on and on...we love hearing everything that you have to say. I could have heard more about the genealogy part of your trip since I am so into that too. Many of us are. Please, if you learn anything more don't hesitate to let us know.

Glad you are home safe and sound and most of all...happy and content.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.
