OT: Bleeding in pierced ears
Anybody else have this problem?
Last December, my right pierced ear started bleeding whenever I'd put an earring in it, so since it was so close to my knee replacement revision, I quit wearing earrings for awhile until I went back to work (about two months). I was afraid maybe my piercing might close, but it was fine and I didn't have any problems again until last week.
Then it started bleeding again when I tried to put an earring in. On Wednesday, I wore dangly earrings and it was fine. Thursday, I wore a post, and it started bleeding. I went without over the weekend, tried to put earrings in again on Monday, and it started bleeding again, quite a lot. So again, I'm going without earrings.
I got my ears pierced four years ago, when I turned 50. I don't know why this has started suddenly. Anybody have a clue, or what I can do. I'm using alcohol and hydrogen peroxide right now. Yes, I did get my ears pierced at a reputable place.

are you allergic to the metals?????/
i pierced ears for a living for awhile and have sold jewlery most of my life...i can only wear sterling silver or good gold...
do you have any baby oil? mix some baby oil with some alcohol in a small bottle-shake it up and apply to your ear with a qtip or something--it will keep it clean but not dry it out.... or neosporin type cream on it....

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Don't think I'm allergic. I'm wearing silver jewelry everywhere else on my body; I wore gold when this started (got pierced with gold); I'll try neosporin.
The first thing my ortho doc asked me when I started having problems with my knee replacement is if I was allergic to metals, but then he looked at my earrings and rings and necklaces and said, "I don't think you are, or you wouldn't be able to wear all that jewelry." So I don't know what's going on.

Hi Eileen,
I've never had bleeding ears, but I frequently get infections at the site. When the area first begins to feel irritated, I use neosporin & put earrings in. A couple of days of using this clears it up. This happens 6 - 10 times a year, even though I wear good quality 14k gold earrings most of the time. Peroxide never helped me to avoid infection at all, I love neosporin.
