Subject: Page 425 of Health Care Bill

(If this doesn't make your blood boil........... nothing will!!)

Page 425 of Health Care Bill - Listen to this interview Fred Thompson's Radio Show interviewing Betsy McCaughey (pronounced Mc Coy).  Or look it up on www.fredthompsonshow.com, under interviews.

On page 425 it says in black and white that EVERYONE on Social Security, (will include all Senior Citizens and SSI people) will go to MANDATORY counseling every 5 years to learn and to choose from ways to end your suffering (and your life).  Health care wi ll be denied based on age.  500 Billion will be cut from Seniors healthcare.   The only way for that to happen is to drastically cut health care, the oldest and the sickest will be cut first.   Paying for your own care will not be an option.

Now, CALL YOUR PEOPLE IN WASHINGTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Tell them to read page 425 if they don't read anything else.  Surely  some of them have parents.

"ON PAGE 425 OF OBAMA’S HEALTH CARE BILL, the Federal Government will require EVERYONE who is on Social Security to und ergo a counseling session every 5 years with the objective being that they will explain to them just how to end their own life earlier. Yes...They are going to push SUICIDE to cut medicare spending!"

I listened to that too.  With all the media attention given to it I doubt it will get passed.  It certainly is up to us to choose our politician wisely and not wait until crisis point.

We have grown up with "crooked" politicians yet we continue to vote them in.  We have become blase' as to what is going on until it hits home with us personally.

I am NOT chastising anyone, merely pointing out that we as a democratic society have within our means the greatest government on earth; but we don't.  Why?  We should not feel helpless either.  There are many many ways to educate ourselves on what is really going on but do we?

I'm as guilty as the next.  I feel the need to be more aware than ever before.  I hope you do too.

I have been following this bill very closely. I work in health care and especially with the elderly and disabled. I am outraged at the thought that our lawmakers will be passing a bill, or could potentially pass a bill, to change our health care benefits without reading it first!
So far I can't even figure out who is writing this bill. It certainly can't include informed health care professionals.
The most alarming items I have read so far are as follows: Pg 29, lines 4-16- Your healthcare will be rationed. Pg 42- The Health Choices Commissioner will choose your benefits for you; you get no choice in the matter.
Pg 58- the government will have real-time access to an individuals finances and a national health card ID will be issued. Pg 59, lines 21-24- the governement will have direct access to your bank accounts for elective funds transfer!
It goes on and on, but I don't want to make this response too long. If anyone is interested, you can go on line to a search engine and pull up the bill to review.
I have written a letter to my senator and have encouraged all of my staff to do the same with all of their representatives. If we make our voices heard, we might stand a chance to stop this travesty in it's tracks! I know we need health care reform, but this is not the way to do it.

 Penny,

Thank you for your input.  Those of us who have been in health care in one form or another can see where this will lead.  Yes, reform is needed but it seems we are giving our health care over to the government and big business by passing this bill.

Big Brother  is alive & well.

I must be blind.  I read Thompson's entire blog and could not find one mention of any of the pages of Obama's health care reform package.  What I did find, through some research is that the healt care refore is broken down into eight or nine sections and no where does it mention in those breakdowns cutting senior healthcare at all.  In fact, what I saw was that they were going to increase spending on senior healthcare in the way of medications, supplies, and doctor's visits.  Also, there was a section that talked about adding more preschool programs and in those programs children would get the normal screenings for eyes, ears, and scoliosis but nothing about suggesting peope off themselves.  If there is a page on Thompson's blog where I can find this, show me.  Oh, there is this thing going through the email about Obama's birth certificate being bogus, and where he is trying to bankrupt america with his health care package so the muslims can take over.  LOL.  I'm just saying, I cannot find this specific thing anywhere and if it were there, it would be plastered all over the legitamate news.

I don't know about the "Thompson blog". I get my information from the National Association for Home Health and Hospice, as well as CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid). I also receive an annual report from CMS that gives me the rates of reimbursement for Medicare, which in the case of Home Health care for seniors, is slated to be cut by 5.5% in 2010. This may not sound like much, but if you take the 1.2 million dollars our small agency does alone and subtract 5.5% we would lose $55,000.00 a year, the cost of one nurse or therapist's salary. We would be unable to supply all of the services our patients's currently need.
I know all of the news channels can be bias one way or another, but everyone needs to be informed about what is being proposed in legislation. If we don't fight this, it will take control of our health care out of the hands of our physicians and even ourselves and give it to the government. It is headed toward socialized medicine which has failed in Britain, Canada, and other countries. I know that many of the ideas proposed are good and well meaning, but unless you know the details of the proposals, you can't know how debilitating they could be to our nations health care system.
Please be diligent in searching out the truth of these proposals. Our state representatives will listen if you write or call and give your opinion.

And even Home Health and Hospice has a political agenda.  Until I have Obama's proposed health care overhaul in my hand and read it myself, I will not believe whatever is going around through either the Internet, email, or any other propoganda spreading agency.

Even if Obama's health care resembles socialized medicine, and you say look at how it failed in Canada ect; at least in those places everyone can access medical, dental, and eye care.  I'm sorry if they have to wait in line; our veterans wait in line at the VA hospitals.  I'm sorry they triage their services, so does the ER.  I'm just saying, look at all the people on here whose insurance denied them surgery; that doesn't happen in socialized medicine.  Every one gets treated.

Sure the doctors and insurance companies are joining forces to fight this.  Why wouldn't a doctor fight it.  Now they set their price and get it too.  And, they can deny medicare patients because they don't get enough money.  They can take so many medicare and so many medicaid and that's all they have to take.  My son's wls doctor refuses to do medicare because they don't pay enough.  And, my insurance refused for two years to cover my asthma because it was preexisting and my husband cannot get life insurance on me because of my wls nor will he quit his job because now I have those ulcers and no other insurance will cover me.  Under Obama's plan that doesn't happen.

Don't listen to the people who benefit the most from our present system.  Instead think about all of those who benefit the least, the poor and those with medicare and those with preexisting conditions.  I am not judging until I have read it all and I won't let lobbyists or special interest groups sway me.

Everyone in Canada etc. CANNOT access medical, dental and eye care !  You are living in fantasy land.

My friend, who lives in Canada, had wls there and was on a waiting list but did get the surgery and they even paid for her to come to the states.  My other friend, who lives in England and is an American citizen, gets free medical, dental, and eye care.  I don't think she is lying to me.  She said it is the same for everyone.  And my Canadian friend same thing.  I don't think I'm living in fantasy land.  I do think that the information that I have is vastly different from the information that you have as far as socialized medicine goes.  I've heard horror stories of a woman with a fractured hip waiting months to have surgery; however, when that was investigated, she didn't wait months nor weeks.  She had a two day wait but here in the USA and with no insurance you may wait longer than that for surgery.  Case and point.  Before my husband and were married, I only had medicare because I was disabled.  I had been complaining about my hand hurting.  They just gave me medicine said nothing.  When hubby and I married and I was put on his wonderful insurance, they jumped on repairing my worn out tendon and ligament.  When I asked my pcp, he said that surgeons will not do those really complicated procedures that are really not life threatening if insurance is not involved.  That medicare just won't pay them enough.  Now you can spout out all the facts you want, but in the USA, there is a disparity between insurances, medicare, medicaid and non insured reciving health care.  It is not fair.  In other places, where regulations by the government exists, everyone gets the same treatment be is ****ty or great.  I don't think because I have excellent insurance, that I should get in the ER first or get sent to specialists when others, who have no insurance or medicare, are passed over or medically neglected.  Obama wants health care and treatment for all.  What the **** is wrong with that?

I guess what is wrong with that is that he has not even read the document.  I hear that it is quite lenghty and he wanted a vote quickly.  If this program is not to be in effect until sometime in 2010 why the rush to vote.  Let our elected officials take the time to not only read but think about all aspects of the bill.

As far a perceived benifits and consequences of socialized medicine everyone has opinions.  I personally do not trust our media.  They stopped reporting the news decades ago and editorialize instead.  In more recent times I think they slant reports according to their owner's bias.  It doesn't matter who is in the White House, democrat or republican this happens.  I consider left wing and right wing journalist and talk show folks equally guilty.  That is why I listen to BBC.  Its like the old dragnet show "Just the facts mam"

As far as my statement that everyone does not get care in Canada and England I stand by that.  We all have personal experiences that shape our views.  I too have a close freind that is from England who moved here about 10 years ago.  Her father had symptoms of colon cancer and had to wait 11 months to get an appointment with the doctor, by that time he was in stage 4 cancer.  They did what they could and sent him home with morphine for his pain.  My friend who is a nurse went home to care for him.  She sat by his bed and watched him die an agonizing death because although she had the morphine to make him comfortable she was on a wait list for the machine that could administer it.  I know this is true.  She was devastated and racked with guilt because she was helpless to ease his suffering.

I also know that the percentage of residents getting screenings for cancer is far below the percentages here in the U.S.  Some of that I am sure is the fault of the patient.  Humans tend to put off anything that is not convenient.  However, part of that is that equipment is not provided to all hospitals and clinics.  That would be considered redundant.  There may be only one cat scan or MRI machine within a large area this makes for waiting lists.  The longer it takes to be diagnosed the greater mortality rate.

WLS approval rates is not the barometer to determine if the medical care is good or not.  I have insurance and I guess it is as good a most.  However my employer elected to disallow this coverage in their  plan.  My insurance company covers this surgery but only if the employer allows it's inclusion.  I had to self pay and had to budget for it.

I definitely agree that our health care system is far from perfect.  Uninsured or under insured do not get the quality of care the insured do.  Again some of this is the patients fault.  My brother did not have insurance and could have been seen at the university hospital 30 miles away but of course they do not make appointments.  He would have to drive there and wait as long as it took to see the doctor.  He was not willing to do this.  Emergency rooms are required to accecpt all who walk through the doors and at least get them stable.  At that time they are transfered to what in the old days were called charity hospitals.  There is at least  one of these  in every major city.
( Side Bar:  Ironically as I am typing this in a hospital in Atlanta I overheard a staff member say she needed to get (something?) because the patient she was refering to had no insurance or money and the hospital was paying for whatever she was talking about.  I just had to add this because I found it astounding that a hospital would pick up the tab for anything.)

Back on track:  Yes there are everyday health care issues that need to be improved and no one with a brain at all would disagree.  A lot of those things are more advanced diagnostic tools and the like.  These are not readily available to anyone in England.  My friend said that residents of Britan who want the type of care we have come to expect in this county becomes a private patient of a specific doctor.  They basically pay a retainer and when they get sick they get bumped to the front of the line.  Not so different from here.... those who can afford better care always get better care because someone is willing to bend rules or get new rules created that will allow them to profit.

All I ask is that whatever health reforms we adopt is the result of careful investigation and diliberation and not something that is rushed to be put through.  What I hear scares me.  When our president is asked a question about a specific clause of this plan and he has to admit that he hasn't read it...that is scary.  If HE doesn't know what is in it, who wrote it.  It can't be his plan if he doesn't know what it says.

We have a three tier system in this country to provide checks and balances.  I have never liked  to have the president, the house of representatives, and the senate controlled by the same party.
The president gets the praise or the blame for what the public perceives as good or bad government but he has less power that most realize.  Bush had a democratic congress since 2006 so both parties have responsiblitiy for recent history.  Obama did not inherit anything his party (including himself)  didn't vote into being.  I am very concerned that human nature is taking over and the democratic party is taking this opportunity to push through their agenda at any cost just in case the balance changes in 2010 when the voters decide if they will still be in power.  I would feel the same way if John McCain was the president and the republican party had absolute power in congress.

I do not vote democrat or republican I vote the canidate.  I did not vote for Obama because I felt he lacked experience.  I still believe he is too inexperienced to be president, what I hear on BBC leads me to believe that he is not respected around the world and that makes me uneasy.  I fear that our enemies will perceive him as weak and take actions against us that they would otherwise not dare to take.

I am 62 years old and always felt secure within our borders and abroad.  I no longer feel this way.
