I have a question...

I have been on pretty strong antibiotics for quite some time now...I am thinking back and I believe that I have been on them for about 6 out of the last 8 weeks.

My question is...can these be doing some harm to my Harpo? I spent about 20 minutes in the bathroom last night with dry heaves.....and I told my sister that I am wondering if it could be from the antibiotics and the fact that I have a pouch now and not a "normal" stomach.

Inquiring minds (or at least mind) wants to know......

Hi Brenda,
Sorry I can't help with the pouch part (since I didn't have WLS I don't know much about it) but I wanted to send you warm wishes and prayers that you feel better real soon.

6 weeks of antibiotics is a lot.  Are you eating lots of yogurt?  The antibiotics will kill all the good bacteria that you need in your stomach.....the yogurt will work to replace it, but you do need to consume a good amount of it.  I think there are pills you can buy that will help too.

I hope you feel better and get some relief soon.

I think that any medicine can do damage to your pouch.  Ask your doctor if you should be using carafate or something too.

Brenda, sorry I don't have an answer for you, but like lightswitch, I recommend you call your doctor.  My doctor gave me a script for carafate when I HAD to take NSAIDS.  Hope you're feeling better soon.

Brenda, I agree with Ruth -- you've got to eat yogurt to help with digestion and bacteria in your pouch.....the antibiotics kill both the bad and good bacteria.    GET SOME YOGURT NOW!

If the yogurt doesn't agree with you, there are just probiotics you can take (you can get them at the drugstore). That might help ... one brand newly on the market is called Align.
