Hi Jan
You are doing great at 26 lbs in 2 weeks. You might find that on this journey your coffee does not taste the same as before. I did not drin****il I was a year out from
surgery. it was yucky for me. It is also not reall good for us in the beginning, something
to think about. I saw one of your posts earlier, you are not eating real food yet, are you? I know all Doc's are differetn, but, I was on purred food for 6 weeks after mine.
You might want to change how your eating these first few weeks & watch the poundsdrop a little quicker even.
Hang in there, the ride will be fastinating, for sure!!

Hey Marilyn,
The 26 lbs included my 10 lbs post op.  The coffee tastes good, just not wonderful with the cookies n cream protein added.  I'm on regular food now, but I haven't tried pasta or bread yet and don't plan to for quite a while.  Everyone has scared me enough to be extra cautious.  I'm mostly staying with soft foods during the day and then at dinner I might have something more substantial.  It took me two evenings to eat almost one egg foo yung patty.  It went down well, of course I chewed and chewed and chewed and savored the flavor.  Before I would have eaten the two patties, fried rice, egg roll and soup and been looking for more.  Hubby can't believe how little I eat now.
I'm going to go have some refried beans and cheese now.  That's yummy too these days.

Just be careful as to how much you eat. You are still healing inside. Keep that chewing
going!!
For sure stay away
from those bad carbs fore ever if possible & do not try rice (maybe ever) that will get stuck in a heart beat & be quite awlful feeling. If you can get those healthy eating going
now & in place by the time your honeymoon period (1 yr) That is the quick weight loss
period. You will do so much better. Stay away from those bad carbs & the sugar now
& always if possible. Not yelling, just trying to let you know it gets much harder the farther out you are.

Jan, My thoughts echo Marilyn's. "I've ONLY lost 26 lbs". You had surgery just a bit over two weeks ago right? My dear friend, you are doing MAAAVELLOUSS!! The best is yet to come.

I am still grading my student's papers.  ARGH.  The hubby and son are taking the big kids a ball game so that means that daughter in law and I will only have the two babies.  Yeah.  My day, other than grading,  keeping every one fed.

Hi all!

Still recouping and taking it slow........swelling in the hands has come down quite a bit but the arms are still tight.  I'm wrapped in ace bandages and then have a compression on sleeve on each arm....it's not only warm but with the swelling I'm now feeling like a 5 lb bologna in a 2 lb skin!!  I'm looking into going for a lymphatic massage to help reduce the swelling and push the fluid out.  I'm hoping to get an appointment early next week.

Got some potentially disappointing news yesterday......seems there are some liens on the beach house and we may not be able to close on the 11th as planned.  There is a slight chance the whole deal might fall apart.  One way to look at it is if the deal falls thru it takes away the decision of which house to live in........but I still want the deal to go through because I even if I decide not to live in it I can sell it and make a few bucks.  Since I'm still unemployed this would be a nice thing.

Mad at myself for not sticking to my workout routine lately (pre-surgery), so I'm trying to make a commitment to make the workout a priority in my day like it used to be.  I know I can't ride the bike for about 4 weeks so I'm thinking of getting up very early and walking around the neighborhood starting on Monday morning (maybe Sunday).  I'm thinking if I get out by 6am it might be cool enough.  With my arms double wrapped it is going to be mighty uncomfortable walking unless I get out really early.........Maybe I'll just plug in the treadmill and sleep later.  Either way I just have to get in gear!!

Going to do a small load of laundry, take something out of the freezer to defrost for dinner and then will get the arms elevated again.

Hope to dangle my legs in the pool for a bit today.......very refreshing.

Hope you all have a great day..

HI All
Aug 1st & actually slept 9 1/2 hours last night. I guess I must of needed it!! Maybe that
is why my attitude had been in the toilet of late. Was not sleeping well at all. How I managed 9 hrs is beyond me, but, already feel much better this a.m. Starting August
off to a better start. Maybe this will be the month for a job!!
Not much planned for the weekend, Same o stuff with no money. Will probably clean out the storage shed as we sold the BBQ that was being stored there. Can't use them
in this apt complex. Now I can move stuff around & maybe find more stuff I can sell.
Have a great Day & weekend!!

Hi Mary and my OFF family:

Good to see you again, Mary ... long time! Ah yes, college shopping, I remember it well (it's been a long time for me, personally ... 1973, and I knew exactly where I wanted to go, there were no big decisions; I was going into journalism, I was going to be a sports writer and I was going to Northern Illinois University ... Northwestern was too expensive and I probably didn't have the grades to get in ... although I did graduate 16th in a class o**** but I never thought of myself as that smart, especially in math and science). Anyway, it's an exciting time of life for him and you, bittersweet for you. My mom had a rough time of it because I was her "baby" ... when I went away to college, she was heartbroken ... she thought I was going to be lonely, but the first night she called, I had a roomful of people in the dorm room.

I just got back from getting my hair done. Oh my, she did a good job this time. Well, she always does a good job, I think, but especially this time. I was going to do what I always do, getting it cut, colored and highlighted (which runs me a lot of money, but I haven't had my hair done since March). But Diane, my stylist, suggested first I go with the highlighting special for $25 ... then she said, "We could do a cap." That was $50 and she thought it would really brighten up my hair, more so than just the seven foils for $25. Oh my, what a difference! I look like I've been out in the sun all day. I need to have someone take a photo so I can post it, it looks so nice. Maybe I'll have my psychologist take a photo Monday (it's the first person I'm going to see).

I had thoughts of going to a movie this afternoon, but I'm just so tired. Work was long last night ... I got home at 1 a.m. and then stayed up til 3 to watch the Sox game (they won, 10-5). I was surprised they made a trade ... they traded away their starting pitcher for the night along with three other pitchers for Jake Peavy of the Padres (who's injured and won't be able to pitch until September). So that was exciting. I know, baseball report ... sorry, Mary, your Pirates keep unloading all their players.

I have three days off and hopefully will get some stuff done. I have all these blueberries and want to make some blueberry muffins (two good recipes, one for just plain blueberry muffins, another for blueberry/pineapple muffins), plus I got some zucchini to make the chcocolate zucchini muffins. Plus I want to make turkey rollups, protein balls, etc. Probably not much today, though. Like I said, too tired.

Margo, I hope things go well with the house showing.

Well, not much else going on. Just napping and vegging and watching baseball today. Take care. Have a good day.

Hi Mary, how nice to see you! We've missed your smiling face

I'm at work, between clients. My last one decided she didn't need the cut with her color as scheduled, so where I lost money, I found an hour for lunch and a much needed OFF fix.  I got up later than I have been, Old Dog let us sleep until about 6:00, so all I had time for was a brief look-see before the shower.

Yesterday was a terrible day at the salon. Of course, Friday mornings are always super busy with regulars who  still do the weekly shampoo/styling thing. One of them is a 93 yr lady who is alone except for a good for nothing DIL who doesn't take very good care of her. Anyway, while under the dryer, Dorothy had a very bad seizure, bad enough that she nearly shook herself out of the chair. A retired RN was here and she and one of the stylists tried to revive her, but  she was pretty unresponsive. At one point the nurse couldn't find a pulse. Finally, she did come around and even talked to the paramedics when they FINALLY got here. They took her to the hospital and were keeping her for the weekend.
Apparently the *****esn't even go to Dorothy's house to see how she is. Another client goes by and picks her up for the salon each week. We've tried to tell the DIL how she has declined, and all we get is"she's fine". Hopefully, now that she's in the hospital there will be medical people and social service folks that can see to it that this dear lady is taken care of properly.

Other than that, not much going on here but rain, rain and more rain. Gary couldn't do the yard this morning, so bless his heart, he's vacuuming, putting away laundry and straightening up around the house for me. I'm a lucky gal!

Hugs to all, special thoughts to Laureen

Well - I just got up at 1:00!! (I did get up to let out the dogs and bring them back in but went back to bed)   Of course, I didn't go to bed until 3, but I swear that I could sleep away most of the day if I wanted to.  I am a night owl and never could get used to getting up early, no matter what.  Luckily for me, I teach at a college, and other than my office hours and class time, I can come and go pretty much as I please, so I don't come in any earlier than I have to.  Now and then I have an eight o'clock class and it just about kills me.  LOL
I have done nothing so far today and will likely keep up with the same.   I worked most of the week clearing my house of "stuff" that other people could use more than I ( we took 3 loads in my SUV to the local St. V. deP.), and I can happily say that I like my house much better than before.  I have no idea why I collected so much stuff, but it's gone forever  (I hope!!!!).

Now I am trying to get my eating to a place where I will lose weight before surgery.  I was doing okay for a while, and then,
poof! , the desire to eat in a healthy way mysteriously went away.   Of course, this is nothing new as I have done this all of my life; however, I find my behaviour hard to swallow (no pun intended).

I just read that this July has been the coldest July on record for over 100 years and we had 60 centimetres less rain than last July. I have loved the weather!  We typically have hot, humid summers (I live near Detroit in Canada) and hate them.  i have always liked fall and this summer has seemed pretty much like fall.  Hopefully, August won't be too hot.
I don't have any cute stories about grandchildren or even children as I have neither - just two dogs that keep me smiling.  I really do like reading about others' children and grandchildren - that always makes me smile, too.
I've droned on for long enough and have to get back to my deck chair where I am doing crossword puzzles and cryptograms.  Have a great day.  Margaret
I can hear both my dogs snoring behind me  -  lazy buggers.  LOL
