I'm glad you brought this up. It was really bugging me as I knew what they really were talking about. Going over the POLST, going over whether people want CPR , tube feedings, etc.
We do this with all of our residents on a qtrly basis. Not trying to get anyone to say they want to die at all! Wanting to know if they want CPR, and other treatments. When someone is in their 80s having CPR is very traumatic on those frail bodies and percentage wise usually doesn't work. Not to say never works. Just usually. The Dr. has to sign and most times the resident and the family together participates. I had one little lady who had DNR (no CPR) and paramedics didn't know and did it anyway. She told us all that if the paramedics were called to be sure they walked really slow next time.
I think it is very wise and beneficial for people to go over this with their doc. It is being used as a scare tactic and that is despicable.

Cheryl,thank you for your feedback. How awful to have a DNR,and not have it followed,people have a right to be heard,and their quality of life respected as they see it.
I am so afraid of someone forcing a NG tube down my throat,I am getting a red magic marker and writing it across my chest,in addition to having the doctor and anesthesiologist sign a paper!
Someone needs to be watching the medical profession IMHO,they are out of control.
